edited February 2011 in Pregnant
I just found out I'm 4 weeks along and this happened right after I stopped eating wheat and gluten. I found out I'm allergic to wheat in november and started trying in dec and now I'm pregs! Yay. Anyone else on this forum eat gluten free?

  • Awesome, glad to know I'm not alone. When are you due?
  • Oh yeah, I feel like a kid again. All the heartburn and gas is gone. The worst was the morning after a big pasta dinner, I always felt like throwing up. Did you run into any complications w/ gluten in your first pregnancy?
  • I have heard that about the trauma. You were probably predisposed before but didn't have reactions. Mine was brought on by a prescription for anti depressants... id take one in the morning with a bagel then hurl. It was awful, so I stopped taking it but kept having reactions whenever I ate pasta or drank beer. It took a while to find replacement carbs, but now I'm obsessed with rice and I looove rice pasta! Schaars brand white bread is good too.I haven't seen a doctor about the celiac because my general practicioner was non responsive when my blood work came back negative. But I will see him next week about the pregnancy and bring it up...
  • regarding your irregularity, I heard that's a symptom of gluten intolerance...
  • I agree with all that! Do you feel less tolerant to it now that you haven't had it in a while?
  • I am also gluten free. I eat alot if brown rice and I love the brown rice tortillas from trader joes. I feel so much better not eating gluten. It keeps me regular... :) The market has alot more out there that's gf then when I started not eating gluten four years ago.
  • Awesome! Thanks! Does it affect your pregnancy at all?
  • Nope... I feel I need more carbs because im also working out every day so I eat more fruit and vegies.

  • That is great to hear. I'm only 4 weeks in and haven't been to the doc yet but I scheduled an appt. He's kind of a douche about the GF thing so I need to either find a new doc or just go it alone.
  • @sgbelcher I'm gluten free as well and just stopped eating wheat. I'm 8 weeks into my pregnancy and I'm worried that since I've been eating wheat the whole time I've risked harming the baby. Is everything going to b okay?
  • I'm not but my brother is. He went to his local market and talked to the manager and they told him they would order anything he wanted. I don't know what options you have in your area but if gf products are hard to come by that may be an option.
  • I'm 20 weeks and I am celiac. Both my boys and my dad all have it to. (Its genetic!) My wheat reactions are so much more severe when I'm pregnant. This pregnancy my intestines have basically ceased to function so I'm having a rough time. I hate the gluten free diet but the reactions are sooo bad I don't have a choice. Thanks goodness we have a ton of health food stores in our area. Its just expensive to buy everything gf!
  • I hear you. I can't stand the smell of the frozen pasta dishes any more. I miss wheat wraps and doughnuts the most. I'm afraid if I accidentally have gluten, ill miscarry. I think gluten made me infertile/irregular before. As soon as I cut it out, I got knocked up.
