question about cerclage removal **Update 11:30am**

Ok so Thursday 6/23/11 I'm scheduled to go to the hospital and get my cerclage removed I have an incompetent cervix and I will be 37 weeks that day my questions is what was ur experience with the removal did it hurt and most Importantly did u go into labor rite after its removal.

**Update** so I'm at the hospital I go up to security to tell them I'm here for an appt to get my cerclage removed they call up and the security at l&d said we will call when we r ready so now I'm sitting here waiting for my number to be called like I'm at the dmv this is ridiculous my appt was at 11 and its 11:30 and my docs told me make sure u r here at 11 cuz she has a busy schedule today and wants me to get all set up I'm nervous don't know what to expect and I don't even know if l&d know that I am here but to thoses of u interested in my experience with my cerclage removal I will be updating when something happens wish me luck

  • I would like to know too. I got mine in at 14wks and im 24wks now. Mines is scheduled to b removed at 35wks.
  • W my first son in 2005 I had a emergency cerclage n it was, removed the day my Dr decided to induce me...38.4 weeks. I wish I could say it was a piece of cake but it wasn't. Dr used his fingers to remove it n it was very pain ful. I believe he also tore a bit of my cervix while the removal. But once he finished maybe 5 minutes it was all good. W my second son I had a scheduled c section n it was removed then obviously no pain cause I had a spinal. I really hope things have changed since 2005. W this pregnancy specialist doesn't think I need one so thank god I'm still strong (cervix) I'm half way there.
  • @mamiraquel I hope things have changed I'm set to have my son vaginally all my deliveries have been vaginal the docs said my baby boy is ready should I go into labor after its removed but id still like to keep him in there for at least another week or two thank u for sharing ur experience with me and @proudmum ill be sure to share my experience with u also

  • Sorry if i sound stupid but what is a cerclage?
  • @lala123 a stitch to keep ur cervix closed if u have a week cervix to prevent preterm labor
  • @lala123 its a stitch they put in at the opening of your cervix to keep it closed during pregnancy I have an incompetent cervix basically as my baby get heavier my cervix wants to open instead of staying closed
  • @junebug86 OK Thanks bcus I'm so ready to get mines removed n get dis labor on da move
  • I swear the security at this hospital is a joke
  • @new_baby_in_oct @proudmum @mamiraquel @blackbarbie10 ok I got my cerclage removed finally at 2:45pm after being here all morning my doc at to do an emergency c section but the removal wasn't bad at all it was very uncomfortable but painless and when she took it out checked my cervix and I'm dialated 1 to 2cm and baby boy is head down they r going to check my cervix in 2 hours if I haven't dialated anymore I get to go home
  • Glad it came out ok, hope all goes well now x
  • Glad everything went smoothly for you! My doc says that he can only remove about 1/3 of his cerclages in office. I have whats called a Shirodkar cerclage (named after the guy that invented it.) Its not the basic purse string stitch on the outside of the cervix. They actually go in and stitch the top of the cervix together near the bottom of the uterus. Stretching it as they go. So when I went in to have the procedure done, my cervix measured 2.2cm and after cerclage measures 3.0cm. They feel it holds better. Not many docs perform this type of surgery because it is more complicated. I'm really hoping mine can be done in office and goes as smoothly as yours! Congrats to you. Hope that baby comes soon!
  • @junebug86 Thanks for da update I'm glad it doesn't hurt bcus I was put to sleep to have it inserted I'm wonderin will I b put bck to sleep, good luck to having her soon I wonder how far I will b dilated web mind is removed next month I'm so ready to have it removed so I can hold my princess
  • My cerclage removal was incredibly painful. I was dialated to a 1 and 50%, this was two weeks ago and nothing has changed i have an appt to be induced in 9 days... disappointing sfter trying so hard to keep him in, now he wont come out:(
  • Well I'm home after having it removed 2 hours later I was still dialated 1 to 2cm so the doc sent me home no restictions she said if I want to run a marathon go for it @haileyandtravismom I'm sorry urs was painful mine was very uncomfortable and after it was removed I had cramping they said I mite have some spotting but I haven't so far I'm afraid my story will be like urs after trying to keep him in for so long he won't come out the docs said if he doesn't come on his own by july 7th they r going to induce me ill be 39 weeks ill send some labor dust ur way and @blackbarbie10 ur welcome I hope ur removal is a good experience for like it was for me everybody made it seem like as soon as they removed my cerclage I would go immedialy into labor but that isn't the case I'm disappointed cuz like u can't wait to hold ur lil girl I can't wait to hold my lil guy and @new_baby_in_oct thank u sounds like u have a really good doc that cares about u hope all goes well when u get urs removed and @littlenat86 thank u in hoping he will be here soon
  • @junebug86 I hope so to everybody keep telling me I want make my due date I want to go in soon after he removes it..were u put on strict bedrest n were u put to sleep today for the removal??
  • @blackbarbie10 no anesthia cuz my doc was able to get it out if she wasn't able to they were going to give me a spinal so she could dig around to get it out nope becuz I'm considered full term I have no restrictions her exact words were if u want to run a marathon go for it
