Passed out....in public, a lil worried....(new symptoms)

edited June 2011 in Pregnant
So when i was pregnant with my first son, I use to feel really faint while shopping at stores that had bright lights, one day I actually almost fainted but I made it to my car and sat there for a while to focus. Well yesterday I wasnt so lucky. I was at Nordstrom with my friends and son, and I started to get that feeling and i told her these lights are getting to me so I am going to go sit in the shoe area and she said ok, so I walk away and she continued to look at clothes, well I made it probabaly two feet and passed the hell out. Next thing I know my son is crying telling me to get up while he stands there with some lady and my friend is calling my name. I focus and said i am able to get up but no one would let me, Thank GOD i didnt fall on my stomach i feel on my hip but I took my son down with me. He was in one of those cart things so i quess i gripped it so hard it just tilted over into a rack while he was still in it. I dont know if it was the lights or because I hadnt eaten anything but I was out.

I actually had this feeling when I was taking a tour of the hospital with my first son, and I had eaten like half a pizza with my friend who was pregnant too so i dont think it was lack of food. I think its the lights!

Do anyone else get this feeling while in stores with bright lights?

BTW My son is soo adorable everytime he falls on the ground and look hurt I tell him to shake it off, and he was like shake it off mommy get up, just shake it off....

****** well its been a few days since I passed the hell out at nordstrom and doc said its common not to be alarmed and to take some iron and my vit D is hella low, however ever since then I have been feeling weak and tired with head aches that blur my vision sometimes. What the hell is up??? Baby girl is just as active as usual so I am not worried that she is hurt but am I????? Ugh maybe I just need to rest.

  • Awww, glad to hear that both you and your son are ok. You should speak with your Dr. about that because that is very serious and God forbid but you don't want to risk that happening while you're driving. Good luck with all.
  • Thank you. I know I am waiting to hear from him, I will call if I dont hear anything from his office in about 2 hours. But yeah the person I was with dont want me driving at all, and she actaully told my boss too. Now everyone watching me... kinda strange feeling you know....
  • Ugh! Bright lights make me feel funny! I've never actually passed out but I know the feeling. Glad your okay, hun!
  • Im sorry to hear that, but the funny thing is Im 22weeks and I passed out yesterday also. I was in BJ's doing some much needed grocery shopping when I became really hot and started seeing spots. I held onto the cart and almost fell, when my mom insisted I sit on the floor. I sat on the floor and my two yr old son thought we were playing a game. I tried to explain I was feeling well and passed out. I was so embarrassed. I came too and went and sat in the snack area. Luckily, my mom was there with me and my son.

  • I don't get dizzy and pass out. But my eyes go really funky and I can't see much of anything when I see something very bright like the sun or a bright light.
  • I told my doc and he said he isnt alarmed and that its normal during pregnancy just stay hydrated and eat small meals throughout the day.... I suppose but hell it can become dangerous luckly my son wasnt hurt because i took him down with me. But if he said nothing to worry about then I will try not. Thanks ladies for the concern I just dont think I will be doing any shopping without my husband!

@mshahir I agree scared out of my mind!
  • I've had that happen to me any it always is when I'm out in a store. its happened with all 3 pregnancies I've had n my doc said its from all the extra blood flowing, I even would get palpatations n all. its a sucky feeling tho. glad u n ur lil boy are ok.
  • That has actually happened to me a handful of times. However, two times I was driving on the freeway. The second time it happened while I was driving and I also wasn't so lucky and hit another car. Luckily, no injuries but ended up in hospital for testing and what not for 3 days. The doctors won't let me drive until after I deliver the baby. They concluded that it was due to low blood pressure, hydration status, blood sugar, and possibly the way I sit in the car (the baby could've been pressing on my aortic artery causing a drop in my BP). I have also had it happen when I'm at the perinatologist getting an ultrasound-I ended up having to lay on my side for the exam rather than on my back. Please be safe and if you are feeling that way DO NOT DRIVE! It was one of the scariest moments of my life and I shudder to think that I could have seriously injured or killed another person, my unborn baby, or myself! Stay well hydrated, eat small frequent meals (balanced with carbs and protein) and don't lay flat on your back. Best of luck to you and feel better.
  • @shayshay thank you, he is such an angel he was so concerned for me, and he keeps saying mommy dont fall and I wont fall, but if we do we have to shake it off.
@Bevosnow, wow am i so glad you are ok, I am a lil afraid to drive i never felt that way anywhere but stores but they say every pregnancy is different so I and definitely going to be careful and in the next two weeks I will be car pooling.

@Everyone again thank you for your concerns!
