breastfeeding

edited June 2011 in Breastfeeding
Im breastfeeding my daughter and I also pump so my fiance can feed her and I can start freezing it for later needs. My daughter eats every 3 hrs and I have to pump an hour and a half after she eats because my boobs get engorged(sp). Well I only get a total of 1oz out when I pump but when I bottle feed her she wants 2.5oz. So my question is: is my daughter getting enough milk when she breastfeeds?? How can I produce more milk so I can store more???

  • I also had the problem with feeling I wasn't producing more milk I started drinking oatmeal at least 3 cups of it and @homebirthadvocate recommended I start drinking fenugreek it's a vitamin that smells like syrup lol but it helped out alot
  • There is also a tea called mother's milk that you can drink that will help stimulate the milk production. I think I found it at GNC.
  • I heard that a pump is different then ur babys mouth so u may not b able to pump as much then she eats...drink lots of water and eating oatmeal helped me to..
  • shes prolly getting enough to eat. when nursing your baby is getting as much as they want. when u pump it works differently from a baby's mouth/suck so it will be different.
  • Thank you all!! I definitely need to get oatmeal! Does any flavor or kind work??
  • I also found this tea called organic mothers milk tea. They sell it in amazon and free shipping. Reviews say it really does work. Some reviewers said that it works better than fenugreek tea. I also took this bfeeding class. They told us when you start first pumping you don't get that much milk but when baby bfeeds from your breastfeeds the amount is totatlly different so I wouldn't worry at all.

  • Thank u both!! She definitely gets full when she breast feeds. I really just want more when I pump so my fiance can feed her if I wanted to take a nap or something!
