IUD

edited February 2011 in Health
This is my first baby and I'm 21 years old. I decided after my baby is born I want the iud (which lasts 5 years) I just wanted to know if any of you ladies has used it and if it was safe n effective...?

  • I had the copper iud, mine had no hormones and was good for 10 yrs. I had it in for I think 5 yrs. I had no problems and I was able to conceive 3 months after having it removed :)
  • My mom did it was a horrible experience. Google it, it has the same protection of the pill except if you get pregnant its higher risk for ectopic pregnancy.
  • I have two friends that had ectopic pregnancies with the iud.
  • I had the mirena and while I loved it when it was in I went through hell after. My periods were extremely heavy and lasted 7 days and the pain was unbearable. It took us a year to conceive after. Good luck!
  • I had the mirena in for almost four years and conceived the month after I had it taken out. I will be having another one put in when I am done with this pregnancy. Really do your research on all of your options.
  • I had the mirena and liked it. We got it out and got pregnant six months later, but we weren't really trying for the first 3-4 of those months ;) it kind of hurt to get it in and out but not bad while I had it. Very convenient not to have to remember to take pills. I did hear of someone who had theirs just come out by itself. But I don't know how common that is.
  • I had an iud for 3yrs had no problems i loved it took it out to get prego and we conceived with no problems my friend had one as well ended up prego a week after takin it out I dont kno any one whos had any problems with it only thing to worry about is infections can get serious with it in
  • copper iud (paragard) over hormonal one (mirena) for sure. it lasts twice as long and has zero side effects.

The copper iud has more side effects then the other 5 year iud
  • I had the copper t...wich was awesome I never had one issue with it.Other birth controls made me crazy .I had it for ten years and got pregnant 2 months after having it taken out. As soon as this baby is born im getting another one.
  • Im not saying its not good im just saying it has side effects but they all have side effects so u really have 2 look into them a pick witch 1 ur more comfortable with.
  • i had the mirena one twice, had both for about 2 years and on both i got pregnant the first time we tried. Dont get freaked out when you look up the side effects and so on because everyone is different. Just like the pill the ring the patch and so on... you wont know how your body will react. I liked it because it was the easiest thing to do and i never worried about forgetting. For me, my period stopped after 6mths... good luck =)
  • I got the iud, mirena, after my first and had it for 2 and a half years. Had it removed in Aug waited for my 2 cycles like my OB suggested and got preggo right away. Oh and didn't have a cycle while I had it which was the best part of all.
  • Thank-you that really helps. I think its the best choice for me bc I forget pills (that's kind of the reason I'm pregnant now) n after this baby I don't plan on having another until I'm finished with college n have a house n all that good stuff. So probably not for another three or four years! I think it would be the best choice for me so thank you for all your input
  • Do your research and talk to your OB. It's a great thing for most and I don't want any more kids after this one but think I'm gonna stuck with the iud instead of getting my tubes tied since I won't have to deal with the cycle. Best of luck to you with the research and decision! For me it was a very easy choice...
  • I had a mirena for three years and it wad fine and I got pregnant as soon as we stop using condom
