Id never recommend iud mirena

edited July 2011 in Health
When I had the mirena iud it messed up my sex drive and I bled for two weeks every month. After I had it removed I was very tired just found out I have cysts on my cervix possibly my ovaries too. Took me four months to get pregnant then two months later miscarried. Can't even have sex with husband becuz of the discomfort from cysts. I know it may be different with different people. When I have my af its super heavy for about three days. Sorry for the vent.

  • Thank you for this information! :)
  • Vent away! I got a tubal 2weeks ago I'm praying I don't have any side effects from it.
  • Girl like I said before mirena is not a solution is a complication I have have of my face paralized surgery and other problems like fevers for days and vomiting and diarrhea have it removed and have 4 mc so I'm whit you say not to mirena iud
  • I had the Mirena, also. I bled for the first 4 months straight, and eventually my libido and energy decreased as well. I took it out and got pregnant after one cycle. But I would never get it again, nor would I recommend it. Sorry you had to go through what you did. :(
  • Mirena is poison! Seriously will never recomend it to anyone EVER! Sorry thing r so hard. I just got a bfn today for month #7... Its depressing.
  • @mommyof3girls whoa how frustrating only if I knew that n what. I know now. So sorry for your bfn hun. I got it becuz I was like I I don't have to worry about remembering to take the pill.
  • It's recommended for 2nd time moms
  • Yep I got it after my second child too
  • Oh my! ALSO i dont recommend the DEPO SHOT! makes you fat, no period, no sex drive, cramps. ugh terrible.
  • one of my friends got an iud after she had her daughter, well they somehow punctured her uterus in the process of putting it in. after spending several months in severe pain she went to the er and they removed it and said that because they punctured her uterus she got a huge infection and her uterus was very swollen. she was also bleeding every day after she got it but the dr assured her it was all normal.well since she got it removed shes had multiple problems. she had to be on high doses of meds for months, she ended up developing colon problems and had to go thru multiple colonoscopies and biopsies. she had gall bladder issues and finally the last thing that had to b done was she had to have a hysterectomy. this happened spring of 2010. shes only 22 right now and going thru menapause all because her of her iud. she wanted more children, she only has her 1 1/2 yr old daughter but she cant have anymore now. i will never get an iud. im going back on the pill after my daughter is born
  • Thank u for this. I was considering it. But I'm definitely not getting one!
  • I got mine after my 2nd child, too. Had it in for a year and 10 months.
  • So, its not as bad after you have had your 2nd child?
  • I too would never recomend it! my sister got it after her second child and within months developed ovarion cysts!!

Why is it better after child 2?
  • I had saw a commercial for it in my docs office. I was like "hell no.that shit got more side effects more than anything"
  • I hated mine too! my period never went away!!! I have heavy periods already and I was still having to wear super plus tampons o wait I can't even wear tampons anymore just pads and I have a cyst that I, hope the doc will drain before I deliver o and what's sex? shit hurts to bad and one m/c o I hate the mirena lol
  • Well I guess I'm not getting that den. Gotta choose another method of bc bcuz I don't want no more babies
  • Sorry to hear all ur horror stories ladies but its different for everyone I had the iud for the full 5 years n I loved it never had any problems at all the only reason I didn't get another one and decided to do the pills is because I wasn't in a relationship at the time them a couple months later got wit my bd...am getting another one put in after I have baby...
  • It was the second one I put in. Those things are horrible
  • I had it for a year. The only problem I had really had was a horrible pain on my left side. My Dr swore it was a nerve but since having it removed, I never had the pain again. Oh and I bled a lot and never knew my af would come. And the terrible pain having it put in.....
  • Well, I was set on getting this but now I think I will do more research. I had it before and had no problems but didn't even know that cysts could be a side effect. My libido is already SUPER low, so I dont think this would help. Lol
  • Well i never had neither one but i did have the bc shot and i hated it ugh it makes u look like someone took a air pump and just pumped you full of air but I'm not thinking about bc this time,I'm getting my tubes tied before they close my belly after c section :)
  • I had an iud for about a year. It was not mirena though, it was the one without hormones that you still have your period. I hated it and will never get another one! It made me cramp a week before my period even started, plus the week of my period and it made my period last like 8 or 9 days instead of 4 or 5. It also caused me to keep a smelly discharge. I am probably getting my tubes tied after this baby!
  • I work at a Medical Center and the Dr's did an article on IUDs and the problems they cause. I read it and now I'm opting for a different form of birth control. The Dr's said it can attach to your uterine wall and cause complications with future pregnancies. They also said that women that have gotten pregnant with an IUD inserted will lose the baby. I just didn't ready any positive things about it.
  • @carsons__mommy I was considering getting that one bc any hormonal birth control makes me gain weight. I guess not now. Looks like bf is stuck with condoms lol. I was on the depo shot for less than a year and it made me gain 70 pounds...even the pill makes me gain
  • Has anyone had paragaurd? Im about to get one this week for birthcontrol. I would love to hear good and bad feedback if anyone's used this type of IUD.
  • @redhead35...I'm the same way. I've hated all forms of birth control up to this point. Hormonal ones make me crazy, nuva ring gives my headaches, condoms suck, depo provera was the devil, I even tried a diaphragm but the spermicide burns (and its messy). So that leaves us with pulling out method, timing method, or IUDS.
  • @blissmarie23 ugh doesn't it suck? I guess we'll use condoms until we have our next one...he has one more try to get his boy...then I told him he's getting a vasectomy lol
