idk what to expect... contractions?

So I'm 38w and I'm just waiting for this crazy amount of pain to hit me. Does it work like that or does it start off small and work its way up? How am i suppose to know the difference between just cramping and what a real contraction is? And i know this has probably been asked a million times but i can't find the post

Starts off small then u get the crazy amount of pain lol and when you are in labor you will know its way different than cramps
