my 4 week old...

edited August 2011 in Health
He seems to have a bit of sinus congestion. I've suctioned his nose and nothing. I think hid nasal passsages are a little swollen. He's very fussy and having a hard staying asleep. I feel bad for him. He is nursing pretty well, just a little difficult breathing through his nose. Any suggestions?

  • A vaporizer or one of those plug in things that make the room smell like menthol might help.
  • Same with my girl I put vapor rub on her forehead and it helps her
  • @Proudmommy8789 & @laura536 thank you. I'll have to try the vapor rub, and also see if I can get a vaporizer too. I hope this helps him. It's probably gonna be a long sleepless night for me.
  • I would ask the doctor if its ok to use saline. That works great at clearing sinuses.
  • Put some Vaporub on his lil feet and put socks! that will make him breath soo much better!! Be careful getting some in his eyes!! It does burn!!
  • My doctor said its okay for a baby to have a little nasal congestion because they are getting used to the dry world.. so maybe that could be? I sucked my daughters nose too and it helped a little but she still had it for probably a week..
  • I agree with @Beautiful_Altar. If you suction the nose out alot it can cause the sinuses to become inflamed and swollen. You should be able to just put a couple of drops in each nostril every few hours without suctioning it out. Within a day it will make a huge difference.

Our newborn was so congested in the hospital that she had a hard time eating. The suggestion above came from the on call Pediatrician and nursing staff. After just a few rounds of the drops our daughter was clear. Hope it works for your little one.
  • My daughter had that too her doctor said to use the saline spray it helped a lot!! I still use it when she sounds congested.
