Vaccine side effects normal or not. Please momma's of newborns help!

edited August 2011 in Babies
My 7 week old got his shots today. THe one leg that he received a shot in the site is red and swollen. It hurts him to even touch it. Now I read online the redness and swelling is normal, but has anyone eles's baby had this happen and is it ok. I gave him his 2nd dose of Tylenol and I tried to put a cold pack on it (wrapped up of course), but it hurts his leg to even be touched by it. My other babies never had this reaction to their vaccines, so I don't know what to think. I feel so bad for him, and I know he hurts. It breaks my heart.

  • My son gets really bad reactions at the shot site. It gets all knotted up and will stay that way for a week or so. He even had trouble walking on it when he got his 5yo shots. It may just be that way for him. Ice will help and moving it to loosen it up.

  • @survivormommie3 thank you. I didn't think about warm instead of cold. I guess I just didn't think about that. Thank you. I'll try that instead.
@Mommy2IsaiahNGiselle I didn't get to leave the cold compress on him. Just to touch the site hurt him. Oh I hope he feels better really fast.
@caffeinated_katie Yea my 4 other kids had the occasional fussiness, but never the swelling or redness. It just kinda took me by surprise a little. I wasn't expecting it.
@new_baby_in_oct the knot stayed for a week?! Oh my, I hope his goes away quicker than that.
Thank you ladies! I hate seeing him hurt, its bad enough seeing him cry from getting the shots then let alone in pain after the fact. My poor little guy. I'll try yo do a warm compress and see if that helps him any. I'm just afraid to even touch his lef and have him cry. :'(
