how long do babies stay in their infant car seats?

edited August 2011 in Pregnant
I was gonna get a graco snug ride 30 for my baby boy. They are over $100 . It says up to 30lbs & 30 inches tall I believe. How long you think he will keep this car seat?

  • My daughter was in hers until she was 1 and then we switched her to a larger car seat that can be forward or rear facing.

  • Usually they can make it til they are 1 in the baby car seat. However, it gets super heavy! I got sick of lugging it around last time and switched her to a regular rear facing seat around 5 months.
  • U r suppose to switch a baby by the weight the car seat hold my infant car seat was only up to 22 lbs I switched him at 21lbs to a graco convertible car seat rear and forward facing that reclines
  • Thanks LADIES
  • My son was only in the carrier for 5 months. He was a big baby and has always been tall. At 5 months his feet were starting to hang out the bottom. We got a converter carseat that can be rear facing and then will be good all the way through booster. He's 2 and a half and we still use the same seat.

Wow my phone went crazy lol
  • My son was in his for about a year.
  • i had my son in till he was was 1 and put him in a booster when he became proper weight.but the guideline have change..you need to wait till 2 or max weight ^ just check out the link
  • My first was in it until 8 months, second was about 4 months, she grew out of it. But the larger carseats we got them were convertible so they supported 5-65 lbs

  • 30 lbs? that could really vary..... my first wasn't even 20 at her one year- which at the time if she was 20 lbs you could switch to forward facing, which is when we switched her car seat. but a few months later she was finally 20 lbs and we switched. i had no idea about the extended rear facing thing. and now it is recommended that infant/toddlers stay rear facing until 30 lbs or 2 yrs old.
for my daughter she wasn't 30 lbs until she was about 4.
for my son he was probably 30 lbs around...almost 3? i can't really remember.
