What kind of water can I give my baby?

edited August 2011 in Babies
I know that people used to put a little sugar in water to give to their baby to help keep them hydrated, but I don't know if I can still do that. Thing about it is, my daughter sleeps with her mouth open sometimes, and when she wakes up, it's dry. Of course, I can't feed her everytime she has a dry mouth, so I need some info on water. Please && Thank ya! :)

  • I don't think you're supposed to give infants water. Try just swabbing her mouth with a damp washcloth see if that works.

  • This was straight from the mouth of my friends doctor: she asked if she could give her baby a little bit of water and he replied "Sure! If you want to kill her!" Talk about blunt. Lol
  • How old is your baby? And are you mixing it with formula?

  • I would do the damp wash cloth. And maybe let her sleep with a paci if she'll take one so her mouth won't be open and get dry.
  • yea my baby sleeps with her mouth open and I just give her a damp washcloth , or her hands and face wipes

When my son had jaundice, they told me I could add water to my milk and it would help him poop and pee :/ I didn't do it but i highly doubt it would kill them, that's horrible that a pediatrician would even say that.
  • or her pacifier just like @BentleysMommy said
