question about effacement

edited September 2011 in September 2011
So everyone keeps saying how many centimeters they are dilated and the % effaced. All my doc said when she checked me last was that the baby had dropped, my cervix was closed but soft. So I take that to mean 0 cm but what % effaced I wonder? Any ideas?

  • All drs relay info differently. So your Dr may not tell you effacement. :( or you could just be starting to soften and it wasn't very distinguishable enough in percent to say how much. But if it's soft that's a good start. :) ask next time exactly what % and even what station you are along with dilation. :)

If you are closed you are not dilated. Soft does not mean you are effaced yet, but you may start effacing soon as your cervix has gone from the typical "hard" to now soft. This is a sign that your body is preparing for labor. Doesn't mean it will be today...just getting started ;)
  • Im not sure.. Bump.
