  • I had my baby 3days later, my cousin had her baby 6hours later@
  • Im hoping to get mine done fri..lemme know how it goes!! Did it hurt?? How dialated were u when u got it done??
  • How do the "strip your membranes"? I'm curious. Does it hurt? And who decides to do this (your doc?) & when???
  • I have no idea how it's fine or what it does lol. She did out during my exam. I stopped at starbucks on the way home and felt a huge gush of discharge, went to bathroom and was dripping fluid. Say down and gushed more. No contractions but think it may have been my water. I'm waiting got my hubby and we are going back!
  • Aahh keep us updated!
  • Yay!! Good luck hun and keep us updated!
  • @RizzyChicky stripping of the membranes is a proceedure in which the doctor uses his/her finger to seperate the amniotic sac away from the uterine wall near the cervix. If you're far enough along when the proceedure is performed it can help start labor. Hope that helped :)
  • Yay. Congrats. I am headed to my appointment now and am praying that she will strip my membranes. I got my fingers crossed that your water broke. I hope I can update later saying that mine did as well.
  • so exciting! waiting on the update! I had mine stripped yesterday and i swear it felt like i was going to pee myself for about 3 hrs. i have lost my plug and everything now.... just waiting on my water to break! with my first two it broke first thing so i am just praying my water breaks....like sometime today :D
  • @drgonzo523 Oooh ok! Thank u! Does the doc usually decide right then & there to do it or do they prep you for it at a next appt? I'm 38.5wks today & I was checked a week ago (0cm dilated).
  • Yay. Congrats. I am headed to my appointment now and am praying that she will strip my membranes. I got my fingers crossed that your water broke. I hope I can update later saying that mine did as well. The wait is killing me.
  • @rizzychicky the doc can decide to do it at any time. some docs say once you hit a certain week (38, 39, 40, past due) they will strip. others might decide on the fly. there's no prep involved.
  • Okay so I dilated from 2 to 3 in the hour and a half time. They said I didn't break my water but that I'm in early labor! They sent me home to labor until my contractions are 5 min apart.
  • Did you girls ask your doctor or did they bring it up to you? I have an appointment today I'm due Sunday and want to ask my dr to do this but she's never mentioned it so I don't know how I should do about it

  • @Rl25 just ask I asked my doc and she said on Tuesday when I come back she would she didn't want to this week cause she was leaving town today! The worst they will say is no!
  • I am 37.5 and a finger dilated, I just had mine done. The doc said she will do it weekly. I am wondering if you bled bc they said I would but nothing happened mabye bc she did it very quickly bc it hurt like hell and I heard it takes about 2 min. I am going to clean my house now mabye this will help. I know I'm still early but I had my first at 37 weeks so I guess the doc is expecting the same for this one. Good luck to you, and I'm soooo jealous.
  • @thekellikelli I will ask today wish me luck, this arizon summer has killed me and I'm so crampy all the time it took all that was in me to come to work today. I'm ready to meet my little man already.
  • @survivormommie3 Oh ok. I've asked ALL of my mommy friends and none of them have even heard of "getting your membranes stripped". I'm starting to wonder if it's NOT a California thing!?

@Mpmommy OMG congrats! You're so close! Were u 0cm dilated before u got to 2-3cm after getting yours stripped?

@RI25 @thekellikelli @mamusia I'm kind of afraid to get it done esp since all my friends have never heard of it or got it done here. It scares me. :-/ But I have a fear I will end up being induced eventually bc I don think I'm progressing at all. :-(
  • @rizzychicky yeah I don't want to get induced so I'm trying to do anything to help my body progress but so far not much has done anything. My doctor induces at 41 weeks so my little man only has a little over a week to decide to come on his own!
  • @rizzychicky I was between 1-2 before I went to the dr today!
Still contracting, 9 minutes apart. Getting more intense. Took a warm bath and now trying to relax
  • Good luck!! I hope you have a quick and easy labor!
  • @drgonzo523 you say they separate the amniotic sac from the cervix... how would they do that? I was always under the impression that they just swept their finger around the cervical opening??? Sorry, I feel clueless
  • @jennys3rd I have never had this done but awhile back I posted a discussion about group b strep and that it is advised if you test positive to not get your membranes stripped. Another pregly member asked what the proceedure entailed since I have no experience with it I googled it to find out exactly what took place. To my understanding of the medical article I read (which website I looked at I can't remember. Stupid pregly brain lol) the amniotic sac is attached to the uterine wall and during the proceedure the doctor takes his/her finger and sweeps it between the uterine wall and the sac near the cervix seperating the sac from the wall which can help jump start labor if the body is ready. I will google it again and if I'm wrong I will insert foot in mouth, admit my mistake, and not post such things unless I'm absolutely sure :)
  • @drgonzo523 ;)) Haha. Well it sounds like it makes sense! Thanks for that. I've never been too sure :-)
  • baby! baby! baby! (routing for baby)
  • I got mine done today and om the contractions vary 5 to 10 min apart but they r so intense I had blody discharge yuck lol but just guna start to clean just in case I go in today I wana have my home super duper clean lol nesting phase

This is the article I read it goes into more detail than the "cliff's notes" version I posted. Just in case anyone is interested.
  • Hmmm :-? unsure why that takes you to a login page instead of the article... welp, if you want to know more about it, simply google "stripping membranes during pregnancy" and it was the very first link posted.
