1st day of breastfeeding

edited September 2011 in Breastfeeding
On the first day of breastfeeding, I know that ur milk doesn't come in yet; so does the baby only get the small amt of colostrum you produce that day and nothing else???? Can the baby survive off just colostrum until the milk comes in?

  • The baby only needs the colostrum. How do you think babies survived before formula? :) your body will change the mill to meet the needs of your baby.

  • @marysue @2ndbutfirst @FirstTimeMommyToBe Thanks I guess I just see how often babies on formula eat those first days! But I'm glad to know that!
  • OK so I have a 7day old and yes the colostrum is enough for baby ...problem is baby will be trying to eat literally like ever hour to hour n 1/2 and nipples will get sore quickly, well mine did!! I had to suppliment with formula til my milk came down cause my baby wouldn't stop trying to eat!!! :O
My babys greedy like me!! Lol
  • Milk came down about 3days after birth. The first day was ok, but after he was like umm I need some more!!! LOL I couldn't sleep for more than an hr without giving him the formula, he wouldn't take a pacifier. Smh
    were good now though! :-)
  • @mommyof3tobe I guess that's what I'm scared of.
