Maternity leave & returning to work . and working through pregnancy

edited September 2011 in Pregnant
So ... I recently accepted a job as a supervisor at a linen store. I am very excited and cant wait to start, Seeing as things with my pregnancy are going so well and i barely show when i wear my tomboy clothes. no one apart from my family knows of my pregnancy. I havent told my new job and I am beginning to worry , I plan to work up to the time I have my daughter but would like 4 weeks to stay with her after the birth. I am wondering . Is 4 weeks enough and is this to soon to return to work ? I am also worried my job wont allow me to take that much time off. I know all buisness maternity leave is different just concerened I may not have a job aftewards and thats something that I just cant afford

Anyone out there been through this or in a similar situation

I'm a ftm but I think it's too soon. Who will watch the baby? Who are you comfortable leaving a four week old with? That would be very hard for me to do.
  • I just saw this posted on your wall and answered there, but I'll tell you again, lol!

Depending on the size of your company, you might qualify for FMLA, which will hold your job for 6 to 12 weeks. (You also may have to work there a certain amount of time, so look into that too.) If you do a really great job, they would probably hold a position for you anyway, it just may not be a supervisor position. If you can make through the holidays there, there's a better chance they'll hold your job, because a lot of retail businesses are SUPER slow during Jan/Feb and they might appreciate not having to pay you for those months, lol!!

Your doctor most likely will not release you to work until your 6 week post partum check up.
  • You have to be somewhere for a year to qualify fmla. Your job will not be guarenteed. How far along are you? Will you be getting paid time off you can use? You need to talk to your hr. Do they have multiple locations are they a big chain or family owned?
  • Youhave to be with the company for fmla to cover you you have to submit medical leave paperwork with a not from the dr saying how long you will expected to be out on leave but they still have the right to say that they can not handle having you out that long and say you can only be out a week or two if they want.
