Questions about travel with baby! Even if you can only answer one!
So, I'm only 26weeks and a few days but I've been going back and forth about having my baby in NC where I live or going home and having him with both me and my husbands family there. So, if I decide to have him in NC, I would want to go home and visit my family (my grandpa is terminally ill so my son meeting him is very important). My husband gets 10 days maternity leave and then we would try and tack on another 2 weeks to extend our visit. Since my family is in IL, its about a 14 hour drive. Also, I plan on breastfeeding. So, here are my questions.
1. Do babies travel well? Like how much would he sleep/cry?
2. Would you take the baby out of the carseat to breastfeed every two to three hours?
3. Would using a bottle a few times during the drive cause nipple confusion? Pumped breast milk
4. How often would we have to stop to change the diaper?
5. If we stopped for a feeding and diaper changes, how long would the stop be?
Any one have any advice for if you do take this route?
Just thinking WAY ahead hahaha thanks

2. I'm not sure about this question... sorry.
3. Nor am I this on... FTM here.
4. I'd say you'd only have to stop to change the diaper whenever it was wet or dirty. I wouldn't make any special stops to check the diaper.
5. Diaper change stops would be fairly quick. It only takes a few minutes to change the diaper.
Hope some of this was useful. Maybe someone with more experience (I've only helped raise 2 younger brothers) can give you some more informational answers.
It may affect whether he likes it.. it may if he recognizes the feeling of the car ride. I hope mine likes riding as well. My husband and I travel 2 hours every Sunday then 2 hours back home usually on Mondays so we will be in a bind if she hates riding.
Depending on the type of car you have, like if you have a lot of space in the backseat, I probably wouldn't stop to change just wet diapers (I'd definitely stop for dirty ones considering some of those can be super nasty). I'd probably consider just pulling over on the side of the interstate to change them if you have room in the car to change them.
1. Most babies love the security of the car seat. We only travled about 6 hrs and my son slept the whole time
2.I wouldnt risk getting him out of the car seat while the car was moving.. But thats just me.
3.Again being a newborn it might cause nipple confusion. I however supplement now with my 3wk old and she doesnt mind going back and forth.. Maybe get the big nippled bottles.
4.Id only stop when he needed changed. No special stops needed
5. And if you stop for feedings/diaper changes, try to make it while you guys also need to stop, potty breaks etc.
Hope you have a great trip. and best of luck %%-
@missQ_1sttimemommy2b haha I figured if we stopped for everything like breastfeeding and diaper changes we would add an extra ten hours to the drive lol
thanks for the answers everyone!
