Quick! I need help!!! Anyone know about cars? not sure if the dealership is jerking me around. (npr)

At the dealership now.

2006 Explorer...needs new radiator??? He said it's not repairable. I took it in for an inspection and oil change, and he said it needs a new serpintine belt and radiator. The belt I understand...it has been making a squeaking sound, but the radiator??? I do smell coolant after I've been driving it, but no leaking, no overheating, no coolant light going on...

Ugh...this is going to be expensive and baby #2 is due any day :(

    sounds like they might be trying to maybe he is trying to fix the radiator before all the other signs start cause when radiator messes up it can create other problems

    I asked my husband he says you shouldn't smell coolant but it could just be a hose or something and since you need the belt he could just wanna do the raditor at the same time

    I'm a little confused about the problem! Is this a car your trying to trade in or are they saying you failed the inspection?

    @paige11 yeah, that can cause huge problems if I let it just blow.

    @socalmomma2boys I can't get a hold of him :( I called s couple radiator repair places and 2 places said it doesn't sound repairable and I need a new radiator and 1 place said its all BS and hr could repair it. Ugh...what to do? What to do?

    Tricky...if your radiator is leaking fluid and you don't replace it or repair it, your engine could overheat and cause a lot more problems. I blew a head gasket once when my radiator overheated and those can be expensive. You can probably schedule an appt and talk to your hubby first or even get a second opinion. Good luck!

    @usawife_21 he said it passed inspection, but noticed the coolant smell so be looked into it and saw that the top of the radiator is cracked and leaking

    If you do drive pay attention to temp guage and if it gets hot turn up the heat on full blast also maybe take surface streets don't get on freeway

    No problem he is a mechanic who happend to be sitting right next to me so wth right hope everything works out I know how car troubles have the worst timing
