  • There are a number of reasons test can come back high including baby weighing less than 5 lbs, baby not eating well or not keeping food down well, or baby on antibiotics. How much does baby weigh? How old was baby when tests were done?
  • www.pkunews.org has good info including support and research info. Hopefully next test will be fine! It is rare, with only about 1 in 10,000 Caucasian babies in US, less in African American, Asian, Hispanic.
  • @Granny2B my son weighed 7 lbs 8.9 oz and at his 2 week checkup he weighed 8 lbs 6 oz. He is eating fine and rarely ever spits up and he is not on antibiotics. They did the first test sometime in the hospital and then retested him when he was almost 2 weeks old. Both test were high but the 2nd test was even higher
  • Mine came back tested for cf on te first test we still waiting on the 2 test results
  • What is the pku test?
  • @Smcox its a test that checks for rare genetic disorders
  • Pku is when your body can not produce a certain enzyme your body needs and if you have pku and do not get started on the medical formula immediately, then it can cause mental retardation and seizures and stuff

  • There's no history of it that we know of. They did get him started on the formula after his 2nd test came back high. He will also be on a regular formula too and they are having me test his blood twice a week and mail them the sample until we get his pku levels to where they need to be. He will also have to eat like a vegetarian when he gets older
  • @HomeBirthAdvocate sorry i keep forgetting to tag everyone lol
