Shaping Babys Head

edited October 2011 in Babies Health
So i just realized that I caused my babys head to be flat on one side and I am now worried. She favored one side more than they other and the way I nursed i lay her on the same side now she is a month old and I am trying to find a way to shape head now.

Do anyone have any message techniques or ways I can do this I am going to ask doctor tomorrow what they suggest its not bad enough to where she needs a helmet I hope.

  • From now on just rotate sides. Try not to let her lay on one side for too long. Also be careful with the bouncers. I did this with my daughter. I would always put her in her bouncer then put her in her crib on her back. She had a flat head for months. I was sooo scared her head would stay like that. Luckly as she got closer to age 1 I started to rotate the positions I would let her fall asleep in. Now at age 8 its not even noticeable but her head doesnt have the dent in the back (the area in the back that gives it a round shape) like most people. But its very minor, nothing to get teased over. I know what to do this time with babygirl on the way. O yeah and also be careful with laying her on her back oo often too, she can get a bald spot. (but it will grow back)
  • @BabyBubba123111 yeah she lays on her right side all the time and now its flat on that side and you can tell one side is round and the other is not. I know it should correct it self i am not sure how i prevented it with my son I know he wore more hats than she does. So I am going to see what doc says in the morning hopefully just saying rotate it.
  • Yeah rotating should work now since she is so young and her skull is still developing. Tag me to let me know what the dr says tomorrow.
  • @babybubba123111 so my doc said to just give her more tummy time nothing to be stressed about. He knows I panic all tthe time he felt her head and said its still soft so just lay her on her stomach and rotate sides.
  • lots of tummy time!
  • thank you for posting this, cuz you totally just reminded me i need to do this
  • Start now on getting her on the other side or get a helmet me niece is the same way but bc they didn't force her the other ways her head will permantly be misshapened
  • See, something so simple. ;-) She will be fine, she needs to get used to tummy time anyways so "two birds with one stone". I hope everything turns out ok. It all depends on you, but Im sure you will do fine :)
