Hi ladies! Hope everyone is having a wonderful day.

What are your suggestions in increasing your milk supply? I've seen people on here suggest fenugreek or mothers tea or things along those lines but what works the best for you.

Also, when do you pump and how often to get the maximum out?

Thanks everyone!

  • I get the most after the first morning feed, about 6-10oz between both breasts. I only get 5-6oz after the 8pm feed. She is only 11 days now, I have never had supply issues. I only pump to relieve pressure & so dad can do a bottle a day :) oatmeal is supposed to help too, I have it daily for breakfast & also enjoy oatmeal cookies.
  • @mamaof4 How soon after the feedings do you pump? Immediately or do you wait a little bit? I'm not having supply issues, but I'd like to stock pile some frozen milk so thats why I'm wondering. My husband and I have to travel 4 hours on Sundays so I'd like to have some frozen bottles prepared for when we start traveling again. We've taken a traveling break due to our baby girl only being a week old
  • Oh and I love oatmeal cookies. I may have to get my grandmother to start making me a weekly batch. lol.
  • Im wondering the same.. i heard drink plenty of water but im trying to get the same answers..
  • @kritten_octoberbby If anyone gives me a really good informative answer, I'll be sure to tag you so you can see.
  • I usually pump an hour after I feed him and get about 4-6 oz total. Or I pump when my breast feel full. I don't take anything to increase my milk though
  • @jensensmommy15 i try to pump after feedings but i dont feel i get enough or replinsh fast enough ir something.. how old is baby?
  • He is 1 week old I have 5 frozen bags with about 5 oz each and about 10 refrigerator bags that range from 2 oz to 4 oz. I don't breastfeed at night hubby gives him a bottle but he wakes me up to pump and I get a lot out.
  • Try having a beer to increase supply. It worked for my mom, me, and my friend.

  • Thank you @homebirthadvocate !!
    @kritten_octoberbby check out HBA's response.
  • Also try pumping while u nurse.
  • I produce just enough to make baby happy :-) after the first morning feed - nurse off one breast and pump the other and get 4 oz. LO eats every 2-3 hrs during the day, usually 2. I was trying to boost supply and pump more in between feedings but she seemed to be hungrier and never full if I pumped between. So I am just going with the flow for now. I never had engorgement when my milk came in and it took 8 days for it to happen (and finally some blessed sleep with a full baby!)
I have taken fenugreek when I get a clogged duct (happens often) to help bOost supply while I work out the blocked duct.

be wary of using beer to increase supply. A lot of babes don't like the taste of your milk with the alcohol in it and will eat less even if you're producing more. Na beer has the same effect.
  • I usually pump within the hour after feeding her. I apparently have oversupply issues though, lol. I just added another bag to the freezer stash, She is not even two weeks & I have 24 bags frozen with 5-7 oz in each!
  • @mamaof4 Oh wow. that is a supply. Do they know what causes oversupply?
  • I'm about 3-5 ozs when I pump every couple hours after bfing. I started freezing extra last week and have over 60ozs so far stored. I take np supplements, just stay hydrated, offer her boob everytime she wants it and pump whenever she has fully finished. :)
  • @jellybelly1015 Thanks! Sounds simple enough. :)
  • No idea what causes it. I have had it with all 4. It can be annoying but much better than a lack of milk. ;) I typically end up donating most of the frozen to babies in need do it is a double blessing.
  • Increased oatmeal in my diet. In the morning and life cereal before bed researched it online :) working great for me!
  • I know I'm not breastfeeding yet, but my mom is in the hospital business field and she said to drink lots of water/stay hydrated and it will keep your milk supply up :) hope that helps. I'm sure there are other things to, so just Google :)
