doctor said i can take any bc while bf???

Has any of your doctors told you it was ok to take any birth control while breast feeding? I went to my 6 week appointment on Wednesday, and was asking what are my options for birth control. She just said I can take whatever I wanted. I was kind of puzzled because I've heard the hormones can mess my supply up.

  • My doc said no on everything besides iud's and some pill (cant remember the name) because of the estrogen in birth control.
  • Yeah that's what I thought. She basically said as long as I have an established supply I can take anything. I might want another visit with a different doctor she just brushed me off. What about the depo shot?
  • I'm on depo and was breast feeding when I got it, I never asked about any other kinds (I love Depo Lol) but my doctor asked what kind I wanted and didn't tell me there was anything I couldn't take (I didn't ask tho)
  • @AKmommy hows your experience on depo?
  • Im scared to get anything because my supply sucks. I may have a thyroid problem and i think its causing low supply.
  • Depo iud and mini pill... all thee others have estrogen and that's not ok while bf
  • It works great for me, I got it two weeks pp and I stopped bleeding next day, never caused me to gain weight or anything. I would NEVER remember to take pills or anything so it works best for me
  • You have to take a very low estrogen based bc pill. It can cause the baby to grow boobs early and also some little girls can start vaginal bleeding as an infant. Switch doctors.... Don't look back...
  • I was told I could take anything as well, as it won't hurt baby, but the estrogen in the majority of bc is what potentially will dry your milk supply up. The mini pill is progestin only which doesn't dry you up.
