feeling anxious

edited November 2011 in Health
Im not really sure how to describe whats going on, but when I bf my daughter im starting to feel very anxious. Cant sit still, I feel uncomfortable no matter how I sit or lay and I cant wait for the feed to be over. It happens mostly at night, not so much through the day. Im not really sure how to handle it, I have never felt like this before. When I dont get all anxious I love feedings.
Opinions or advice would be really appreciated

  • It could be a number of things. What is different about night feedings? (Other than it being night haha.) Having a baby and caring for a baby can be stressful no matter how much you enjoy it! People tend to think we experience stress only in bad situations or after some traumatic experience but this isn't true! I often felt anxious if my husband was watchinf me breast feed my son. I was always afraid he would see that I was scared of doing something wrong. Not that he'd know the difference..lol..You could talk to other breast feeding moms to see if they can offer reassurance.
  • That is actually a medical condition... Google it! My friend suffered from the same thing and then discovered it is legit. She gets it all the time when her milk lets down but hers only lasts for a little bit, not the whole feeding. I'm not sure if you can do anything about it but atleast ya know you're not alone!
  • I feed in bed so I can be comfortable and my partner has now learnt to sleep through it so im not worried about waking him (he knows where the couch is if it bothers him lol)
The anxiety has only started in the last week or so (lo is 3.5 weeks) and nothing has changed, feeding is actually easier now because it doesnt hurt and bubs latches easily. Its such an awful feeling :-(
  • @stbmilitarybrat i dont feel like that for the start, its about halfway through so maybe it is from the let down... will google it now, thank you
  • @stbmilitarybrat I did not know that! How interesting. I'm gonna Google it too!
  • @outlaw_sphinx dysphoric milk ejection reflex or D-MER is what its called, it explains exactly how i feel... might see if i can find anyone here who has been diagnosed...
  • No problem! I thought it was interesting too... It is called Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex or D-MER

Lol whoops! Just refreshed and saw your post! I txted her and asked her what it was lol I'm glad you were able to find info on it!
  • i appreciate it so much. so did she continue to feed anyway?? its getting to apoint that im considering stopping because i dont feel comfortable when it happens and i get so agitated that my lo gets that way too
  • Glad I could somewhat help! Yes, she continues to bf. She said knowing what it is and what causes it helps her feel better and since she knows it only lasts a little bit, she just closes her eyes and breathes through it. Maybe if you took your LO off til it passed it would help? :/ :(
  • @stbmilitarybrat i might try that... sometimes its just a few mins but other times it lasts till the end of the feed. i hope that knowing what it is will help, i really want to keep feeding
