edited February 2011 in Pregnant
What foods are you supposed to stay away from and why?? I just found out you're supposed to stay away from hotdogs after I ate one and was up all night. What else should we stay away from??

  • Sushi cuz of bacteria cooked seafood is ok. Stay clear from high mercury fish. Also lunch meats that aren't heated up cuz of salmonilla and other bacterias. Umm gotta think of more ill get back to u
  • You can eat hot dogs just have to make sure they are thoroughly heated :)
  • Make sure tt they r cooked fully to kill bacteria. I stayed away fr all fish though.
  • Thanks ladies. I didn't get sick from the hotdogs but I felt sick and was up all night :( it was horrible!
  • My Dr told me to stay away from lunch meat...high in sodium and loaded with bacteria
  • Basically avoid perservative food go for fresh foods. No can foods b/c of alumumin and meats cooked well done.

  • @ktzBB1 the list of what you can't eat/do is an endless list. Any kind of lunch meat unless heated there is a rare bacteria that can cause mc/still birth , sushi (which I ate the first 4 months-didnt know I was preg) and even for cooked sea food the baby books tell you how much crab and stuff you can have.
  • I work at subway....I am surrounded by lunch meats!!! And everything you all listed eliminates everything...lol no fish no lunch meat nothing in a can lol what does that leave besides the obvious (veggies and fruits) and don't say chicken cause this kid has me hating chicken lol :p
  • I ate lunch meat, hot dogs, tuna, amd canned chicken with my three
  • I say that my momma ate whatever the hell she wanted when she was pregnant with me and I turned out just fine lol as long as I am not eating excessively I'm sure everything will be okayy...
  • Yeah, I eat lunch meat. You will drive your self nuts keeping up with all of it.
  • I asked my dr about lunch meats, and he said if I was going to be as cautious with the pregnancy to not eat lunch meat, then I shouldn't be driving cause I have a better chance of getting into a car accident and something going wrong than a bacteria in lunch meat causing problems.
Mscheyla is right, you could go crazy avoiding everything that COULD be bad.
  • So is like turkey bad? The deli kind???? I've been eating some the past few days :(
  • Just heat up the Turkey meat in mircowave, before you eat it. It kills the bacteria and consume it in moderation.
  • I love my buffalo chicken lunchmeat with pepper jack sandwiches! I just toast them.
  • @jwigs

That my fav, but with provolone! Buffalo style chicken.mmmmm
