introducing a bottle to BF Baby

edited December 2011 in Pregnant
Hi. My baby is 6 wks and yesterday i expressed into a bottle so that we could go shopping and also wanted to introduce a bottle to make feeding easier at Christmas etc. Until now he has been boob only except giving him meds for reflux which is a tiny amount in a bottle. I expressed just over 3 oz and he luckily didn't wake for a feed til we got home but wouldn't take bottle it seemed to come out really efast and he just kept choking on it. I tried a few times but ended up on boob and throwing milk away. Does any one have any tips or can tell me what i am doing wrong? Could it just be the bottles? I tried two different lkind. Thanks.

  • Ok thank you i will have a look at bottle type and make sure. Husband has was going to do it but choking got in the way :-(
  • I like the breastflow bottles. I also use the playtex drop ins (they both use the same liners) with a slow nipple. I think the breastflow are better because they are slower and baby seems more satisfied but husband likes the playtex ones better.
  • Cool thanks, i didn't even really know they had different flows but have a few different kind luckily so hoping one of them is a slower kind!
  • Checked the bottles i used and they are slow flows already :( i do have some others that are vary flow, i tried that and he took his gaviscon (reflux meds) for a few seconds ok then wouldnt finish it or go back on :( Just worried i wont be able to introduce a bottle and dont want to upset him trying. Any more ideas? Thanks.
  • Yeah I go to work monday and my,lo is exclusively bf and she will not take a bottle from me. Ugh my mom is confident she will be ok.
  • Maybe see if they will take a bottle from someone else @qweennique & @three_cats_n_a_baby.
  • I use tommee tippee bottles and we haven't had any nipple confusion at all!
