Is anyone else having problems with waking up in the middle of the night them not being able to go back to sleep till its just about time to get up for the day?

  • I do that but I work nights. I get about 4 hours of sleep then im wide awake till time for work. I sleep fine on the days im off work. Think its all in my head. Obgyn gave me ambien but that doesn't really seem to help either. I just give up.
  • Have you tried Benadryl? Its the same as Tylenol PM, just without the Tylenol. It doesn't work for me, I have always had horrible insomnia.

@salsabia I was put on 10mg Ambien, that barely knocks me out for about 4hrs if I'm lucky. I haven't taken it since I've been pregnant, I was told it wasn't safe. I suppose each doctor is different, as well as individual peoples health too. I have a lot of health problems that play a huge factor into my pregnancy, so I figure that's why Ambien isn't safe for me (I'm on blood thinners, Aciphex for GERD-acid reflux, ulcers). Maybe it was also the dosage I was on, I was on the highest dosage of it. What's yours? OB said it was safe?
  • He said it was safe. I have the 10 mg Ambien too. I can fall asleep on my own just fine. So when I wake up after only 4 hours sleep I take that half a pill so I can fall back asleep. Im a nurse and work 12 hr shifts. Only work 14 days a month. I don't take them on my off days.
  • My doc told me to take a unisom which has helped up until now. I think I am just gettin so anxious for my lil guy to be here. O well guess its gettin me in the routine for those first few sleepless nights :)
  • Makes me wonder if the baby is floating around tripping in my belly. If u stay awake on Ambien you hallucinate. Thinks look weird as if your on LSD.
  • Lol the comment about LSD just reminded me of what my midwife told me when I have panic attacks. Instead of putting me on meds she told me to try self hypnosis and if it works right she said I would take a "trip" just like I had done LSD ;) she then said its her way to relax sometimes is to do self hypnosis. And she loves her "trips" :)
  • I just called & asked my doctors assistant when I called to get some meds refilled to be faxed to my pharmacy. She said normally it isn't safe to take unless you're under strict doctor supervision since it can go thru to the placenta to the baby, but if the pros outweigh the cons, that all other options have no worked, they will give Ambien, but they will be watching mom&baby very close to make sure there's no adverse effects.
  • Like you, I fall asleep fine. Its staying asleep thats the problem! I wake up 5 to 7 times a night. Every night. So I too miss having a good nights sleep. Guess we have to wait it out!
