fear of dark?

My sons 7.5 months old. He has just randomly started freaking out when put in his crib at night. Has a mini night light but nothing else. He has two stuffed animals in his crib. I put him to lay down in his crib, he will cry, then scream, and attempt to climb out. Then when I come to take him out he's shaking and his hearts racing. What's going on?

Separation anxiety. Where's mommy? Where'd she go? I'm all alone? Oh no!! What's going on? Why's it dark? Where's mommy? Where's mommy? MOMMY!!!

My babys crib is right by our bed. Maybe move it next to your bed. She just turned 7 months

Have you tried soothing him while staying in the dark?
Keep playing around with stuff. My daughter is a nut ball. She only will sleep if its completely dark, including door closed. It took us a while to figure that out lol
