Failed hearing test

edited April 2012 in Babies Health
Do any other moms have experience with their babies getting tubes? My son failed his new born hearing test and several since then, he is now 4 months doctor say due to fluid in ears. Have any moms kids had to get tubes? I'm nervous and they plan on giving them to him next month.

  • My cousin's son had tubes put in his ears. It's pretty common, they put him under and less than an hour later it was done. He was 10 months old when they did it and he's 3yo now and he's perfectly fine, hears great.
  • My brother and husband had them when they were little. Don't know much, my brother had really bad ear infections. Good luck (they both are completely fine now, but it was for infections don't know if the hearing loss makes it different)
  • I had tubes when I was little due to constant ear infections. Just have to be careful about getting the ear wet. I wore ear plugs in the water. They should help keep the fluid out, and hopefully that will help with the hearing. I don't know if they do them in the office or not, only because I had my adnoids out at the same time, so that was out patient surgery. Good luck! I am sure he will be fine. :)
  • My best friends brother had them as a kid. The only thing I remember was him not being allowed to get water in his ears...
  • He will have to wear ear plugs in water, but if its for hearing loss just be careful around noisy situations bc might be very loud until baby gets used to noise
  • My daughter was the same way and she is nine months old and still doesn't have tubes she goes in a week to the doctor though
  • My niece had them for chronic ear infections
  • Thanks everyone! I definitely feel better I have just read horror stories about tubes, @due_in_july have they talked to you about wanting to put in tubes? My ENT said he won't let him go any longer than when he turns 6 months cause it could effect his speech since he is hearing like he is underwater.
