car seat experation qushtion!!! what do i do with it??

so i have a car seet that was givein to me after i alrety had one for my daughter after she was born. well i am now expecting agen and due in dec. (my daughter's old car seet is expired and shes now in an convertable one so i dont need to worrie about her). but i was looking at the other carseet i was givin and it has an manufactured date of 20080922, what dose this mean??? may make me sound stuped but i honestly dont know if it will be good or now when this baby comes.




so new qushtion, what do u do with an expired car seat??

They also say 5-6 yrs after the manufacture date.

I think it is ridiculous that a carseat can 'spoil' like a gallon of freaking milk. They are too damned expensive to be doing that :-W

yah i know thats what i thought too when i first found out about it. @captivated they almost dident let me take my daughter home bc the carseet i had at that time was due to expire in 3 months. idk what i was gunna do if i had to buy a hole new one.

Actually my friend had a carseat in her garage that was 6 1/2 yrs old (went to get it for next kid) and the padding was discinagrated (sp) and when you put pressure on the latch area they moved a great deal. We took it into the fire station (who had a trained specialist) and he said that the plastic had been warping in the heat and would snap in an accident.

I've heard some for stations give away free car seats! If they are having like car seat safety where you can get your car seat inspected to make sure its tightly set in the car, some places give you a free one if needed! But these days you can find car seats for what 45 at walmart? I got a travel system so I guess I don't know what the car seat itself costs.
Good question tho. I work in a day care & see ppl with these ancient car seats which obviously shouldn't be used!
