baby making weird sounds

My 3 wk old, I have noticed, makes weird breathing sounds sometimes at night. they sound kinda wheezing and high pitch and really loud...cant really explain them and they seem to happen after he eats. They don't happen with every breath just every so often. Ive watched him and it doesnt seem that hes struggling to breathe or aynthing..Anyone had a child that this happen before?

Sounds like Stridor. Stridor is a high pitched wheezing sound resulting from turbulent air flow in the upper airway. Stridor is a physical sign which is produced by narrowed or obstructed airway path. It can be inspiratory, expiratory or biphasic. Inspiratory stridor is

common. [1] It can be indicative of serious airway obstruction from severe conditions such as epiglottitis, a foreign body lodged in the airway, or a laryngeal tumor. Stridor is indicative of a potential medical emergency and should always command attention. Wherever possible, attempts should be made to immediately establish the cause of the stridor (e.g., foreign body, vocal cord edema, tracheal compression by tumor, functional laryngeal dyskinesia, etc.) That examination requires visualization of the airway by a team of medical experts equipped to control the airway.

A reduction in oxygen saturation is considered a late sign of airway obstruction, particularly in a child with healthy lungs and normal gas exchange.

Ask the pediatrician, it could be nothing too. I would go towards being more cautious.

I'm going to ask the ped. Ive never heard my daughter make these noises and its scary when I hear them with him. Last nigh was the longest episode ive heard him. His chest rises seemed to be ok and even. I need to find my stethoscope and take a listen to his chest the next time it happens

Some kids wheeze from reflux. Know if he has that?

@RTMommy idk would there be other symptoms if it was reflux?

Not necessarily. Sometimes it's "silent". But if he looks okay while breathing and you don't see him using his muscles around his ribs or anything to breathe, I wouldn't be too worried. Some babies are just noisy breathers. The other thing is they have weird pauses in their respiratory cycles and he may be startling himself back into breathing when he has a long pause. It's normal for them to hold their breath up to 20 seconds and restart breathing without any issues. If you see his lips or gums turn dusky, then take him to the doc because that's not normal. Hope this helps.

My daughter had laryngomalacia, it seems your lo may also have this. For us it never interfered with anything, she was just noisy. She's 11 months and no longer has it. It is caused from a "soft/floppy larynx" as she grew it resolved on its own.

Oh and stridor is the broad term. Stridor is just any noise really no explanation. There are several things which cause stridor; larngomalacia being one of them.
