Couch to 5k app {NPR}

So the other day I decided that I want to run a 5k...I have always wanted to do it..but never thought I could. Well I have decided that i am GOING TO DO IT lol. I downloaded the couch to 5k app to get me back in the swing of running..anyone ever use it? How did you like it? I ran my first day tonight and it wasn't to bad! I am not a huge fan of running, but I think I could grow to love it!

  • I used that last summer just to get in shape, and it's awesome. I was running 20 minutes straight without feeling too winded. Lots of my girlfriends use it while training for marathons as well. It's nice because it gets your stamina to increase every week. Each time I thought I felt like I was gonna die, they upped the minutes of running and I somehow made it...and I've never been an athlete. lol You can do it!
  • Downloaded a free version after reading this. I hate spending monies :) Will start tomorrow!
  • @rtmommy I hope it works as well for me as it did for you! When you used it last summer did it help you loose weight? My mom is always saying that if I want to loose then I just need to get out and run...since nothing else has ever worked for me.

@caroline8_p let me know what you think after your run today! Maybe we can be C25K buddies!

I ran last night and this morning I am sore, but not as bad as I thought I would be!
  • It actually did help me. I bought running shoes and that was super helpful too. You do so much running that it's worth the investment. I dropped about 20lbs in 3ish months I want to say...and I didn't really modify my diet, besides drinking even more water than I do now because I was constantly thirsty. It really does work when you stick with it how the program is designed. Running used to be my enemy...now I'll get up and do it just because. You learn to love the instant gratification from being all sweaty. You know you've had a good workout. :)
  • We were just discussing this app in my fitness class last night...the teacher has a friend that did it and she lost a 100lbs and ran the 5k.
  • @rtmommy I did feel great gratification as I laid on my tiled kitchen floor sweating after my run last night lol!

@babylub thats awesome! Are you using it?
  • Would love to be a buddy. But its raining cats and dogs right now, hopefully later! Lol
  • @rtmommy what running shoes do you suggest? I think I need some good ones...my tennis shoes feel really heavy when I am running.
  • No I had thought about running before I got pregnant...now I just walk everyday, but I think I will give it a try after I have the baby because running is the best way to lose weight....I know the shoe question wasn't directed towards me, but I just thought I would suggest Asic running shoes...my hubby is a big runner, he ran track and cross country all through high school and he has 3 pairs of them right now...and it's what I use. Actually our whole family uses them.
  • I am starting in 10 minutes!

Wish me luck in not dying.
  • How did it go?? I am starting week 2 tonight!
  • @sophiasmom11 LMAO! She really loves her mommy! You should def try it out. I am on week 2 and it was a little rough but so far so good!

@caroline8_p forgot to tagg you ^^^ there earlier...

It went OK! I only did half. Its been 2+ years since jogging, lol. I want to go everyday!

I am also using the mapmyrun app & website, I covered 1.11 miles total.
  • Its really not that bad @sophiasmom11 just have controlled breathing & a big bottle of water! I brought 32oz with me & drank 3/4 of it.
  • Ya the controlled breathing is a biggie for me! I also need to remind myself to run with my upper body straight up..I start to slouch and it effects my breathing.
