blood in a babys diaper?

edited June 2012 in Pregnant
Im not 100% sure if its blood in my daughters diaper. But i noticed in one diaper yesterday a pinkish streak. I pulled like 10 old diapers out of the diaper pail but i didnt see it in any others. I kept it on the side, my fiance texted me and said she noticed it in one of the diapers today too. Any idea of what it could be?

  • Is she eating any foods that resemble the color (ie. Raspberries)? It could be semi digested food you are mistaking for blood.
  • Or is it like a salmon color
  • She a little over 2 months. I havent looked at the second diaper, but the firstone one was a light pink, very light but still noticable
  • Sorry, didn't realize she was so young. Take note of the color of the blood and how much. Black or charcoal color is associated with an upper GI bleed, bright red would be a lower bleed. Also next time you see any amount of blood, check her rectum for cuts or tears. It's possible your LO strained and that's the cause.

Other possibilities could be an allergy. Is she formula fed or breastfed?

  • Shes was breast fed in the beggining but is now formula. we just changed formulas maybe 5 days ago to see if that would help with her gas, and screaming and throwing up all the time
  • Could be an allergy to the formula. As for the gas, screaming, and throwing up...she probably needs to be burped more, and it could be something your wife is eating causing the gas. Formulas just going to make the gas worse since it's cows milk, and harder to digest.
  • Or it could be I found this out by takin my lo in to the docs they have crystals or something like that in the bladder nd what not that protect them and its very common in nb (I only ever saw it in one of my kids I have 3) and its completely normal but I would call the doc just to see I am no doctor but that's what my doc said @ericak22 my doc said bf babies tend to be more gassey
  • I bf my son till like 4 1/2 almot 5 months @ericak2
  • I've heard baby girls can bleed and its harmless. Has to do with hormones. Just like when babies nipples leak.
  • I personally have heard this before but if it was me I would take my child in to be safe then sorry.
