babies eye all crusted shut!?

edited September 2012 in Babies Health
Me and baby are doing a ton better. But today she woke up with one of her eyes all crusted shut and gooey. She has an appt on the 19th. Should I be worried and get her in sooner? I wiped it with a warm rag but it just gets crusty again.

  • It's common for them to get clogged tear ducts. Try gently massaging underneath her eye from tear duct out. Keep doing the warm cloth thing. As long as the discharge isn't a green color, she's probably perfectly fine. :)
  • @RTMommy Thanks. I felt so bad for her. Her little eye was all crusted shut and her other eye was all wide open!
  • My lo has it too...its nothing to worry about and will go away on its own. :)
  • Mine had one for about 7 weeks. I was told to massage it at every feeding and to apply a little bm to it occasionally
  • clean it witg warm salt water and use a new piece of cotton wool each time u wipe it! wipe from the nose out! my little one had it when he was born! cleared up a few days later
  • My lo still has a clogged duct & he'll be 1 next week. They said he should go to a specialist now, but they said it usually clears up by then which is why we waited. Hopefully yours will clear up sooner.
  • Thank you ladies. Hopefully it goes away soon. Poor crusty eyed baby.
  • Kaylee had the same thing once she started crying tears. I took her to her pedi and they gave her some oinment for her eyes. It cleared up within days but I caught hell trying to get the oinment in her eyes lol
  • Yes as weird as it sounds, they say drop a little BM in the effected eye.
  • It won't irritate her eye more?
  • No, it wont irritate! It doesnt burn or anything.

I started getting pink etye (from my mascara im sure) a few weeks ago.. 2 days with breast milk, it didnt flare up, just went away.
  • @RTMommy her gooey eye has become green goop! What does that mean? Baby has an appt tomorrow I hope its ok :(

  • Green usually means infection. Have you tried the breast milk like others suggested? She may get drops from the doc tmw. Just keep up on cleaning it for now and make sure you wash your hands before and after touching it.
  • @Mama_Kat @RTMommy

Dr says it's a clogged tear duct. She gave us some drops to help but said it might not go away for awhile :( I tried bm the other day. I think I'll try the drops and if it doesnt help I'll try bm again.
