high fever

edited September 2012 in Babies Health
Since yesterday around 6 Daya has had a fever. We put the thermometer under her arm and her temperate was 101.6 we took her a cool bath gave her a fever reducer. We took her temp again at 2 and 5 in the morning and it didn't go down we took her to the ER and it was 103.2 in the butt. Her whole body feels really hot doctors didn't recommend anything they were no help. Does anyone have any ideas of wat I can do for her?

How old is she? A fever is actually a good thing..it means her body is fighting the infection and the fever is killing germs. Unless she's under a month old, then they worry more about it.
The motrin should help her ear pain though and hopefully she'll get better soon! I can't believe they didn't even catch that in the ER! Ugh!...and a double ear infection at that, poor baby, she must have been miserable!
  • She's about to be 11 months. The doctor was surprised they didn't see it in the ER .
Daya has never had an ear infection before. How do babies get them?

She's did a lot better last night and today she's laughing more playing more and eating better
    Thank you everyone(:

  • It can come from milk (or any drink) getting in the Eustachian tube then it gets infected. That's the tube that connects the ear to the back of the throat. It keeps the air pressure stabilized and I think it even drains fluids. Does she lay on her back a lot to drink? That could cause the fluid to go down the tubes. Also, if anyone smokes in the home that can contribute to ear infections. My now 16 year old son had them so bad that he had to have tubes put in his ears! But he had like tons of them before he was a year old.

I'm glad she's feeling better though! The antibiotics must be working! :)
  • @Wilsomom she is breastfed at night and lays on her side we sleep together. While I'm at school she takes a bottle but shes not put to sleep with it. My mommy in law carries her then lays her down wen she's done. But she normally doesn't take the bottle that much she eats a lot of table food and will only take about 2 oz
