allergy to tomatoes?

edited October 2012 in Babies Health
NI've noticed a patern everytime I've given my 15 month old any thing with tomatoes in it. Even if he has 1 bite of pizza the next day he breaks out with a nasty diaper rash even when I change him immediately after he's had a bm. No one else in the family has a reaction to tomatoes, and I feel bad when he's begging me for a bite of my food since he loves spaghetti.

Anyone elses lo or older kid had a reaction similar like this when they ate tomatoes? Did it go away for them after a while?

  • Tomatoes are really acidic thay may have a lot to do with it
  • Alanah gets it from time to time but her favorit snack is tomatoes i just lather her but ip with a&d all day and the next it has helped a lot
  • My son had a severe allergy to lobster and we went to allergy specialist...did the tests and it says he was allergic to tomatoes(one of many things)...which is weird because he eats tomatoes raw and processed and he's never had reactions.
  • @myheartzx3 wow that's weird...maybe he grew out of it?

@hupe23_1 ive even done that before, and it doesn't help him. I was reading online that tomato sauces are less acidic than raw ones..but doesn't seem to be the case.
  • Tomatoes quite commonly bring young children out in rashes - either on the face around the mouth or nappy rash. It is normally because they are so acidic and lots of kids grow out of it. Maybe just try to really limit his intake or talk to your doctor if it is really bad? X
  • Lol idk because he just turned 7 but months ago we got the test done for the first time and that's when they said he was allergic to tomatoes...he ate them all his life. The doc asked him what's ur fave food..he said pizza. And the doc said uh oh.
