Anyone with only one umbilical artery?

edited March 2011 in Health
I'm new to posting. I've been watching the forum from the beginning of my pregnancy. I'm 19 weeks. I had a second us on monday with the ob, (a mid wife is delivering me) and he said he only sees one umbilical artery. Otherwise the babies heart, kidneys, and body look perfect. I'm kinda scared about it all. This is my first pregnancy. Has anyone else been through this?

Yes i am! I've posted before looking for someone with a similiar situation. My dr said i have single umbilical atery, one artery instead of two...
But as far as the ultrasounds go he has two kidneys and seems healthy.
my dr also told me in the 20 yrs he's had multiple cause of single umbilical artery and never had a baby born with a deformity or other health issue.
Just keep your stress levels down and no heavy lifting or strain.
It may cause early labor, though
  • The ob told me pretty much the same thing. I see my midwife on monday I hope she can give me a little more comfort. The ob was a little odd lol. He's the head of the clinic, so he must know something. He however didn't really tell me not to do certain things, just that defects are rare. It was reassuring tho to see both kidneys and a normal heart.! Good luck hun and thank you. :">
