edited October 2012 in Pregnant
Has anyone else been told their doctor found a tiny hole in their baby's heart? I'm really nervous to see what the next steps will be and what this means for my little boy so far my csection will stay feb 7

  • Its pretty common from what i know and can repair itself as baby developes and grows.
  • I'm 22 weeks and this is the 3rd ultrasound the first they told me to come back in 2 weeks I came back and the tech was real quiet and took 45 mins looking at AJ then today I went in for a 3d ultrasound with a specialist and he said he wants to see me every 3 weeks and I had to change my hospital to one with a better intensive care unit just to be safe. I won't know till I see my normal ob gyn the next steps but I'm scared as hell, @steph_due_101611 how long does can it take to be repaired
  • Oh my, u must be a mess worrying. I know I would. I don't know much about this but prayers for u and baby. Try to think positive and remember that God hears our prayers. ;)
  • I know one of my best friends was born with a hole in her heart but over time it grew and closed butt i guess it realky depends on each individual case. Like where the hole is and what function its affecting.

  • Im going threw the same thing i took.my son in for his 2 month check up and they said he has a heart murmur which is an opening in the heart or as you said a hole. My son has an echo scheduled for tuesday so he can know how big it is but he said hes not worried at all sonce my baby is doing so good that most of the time it closes as they get older and that its very common. So dnt stress everything will be fine.. dnt worry
  • I was born with a hole in my heart & I'm okay, unfortunately mine never closed but so far I've never had any issues. My son was as well, he is now 5 months old and the hole has completely healed and closed itself. I don't think it's something to worry yourself too much about. Just take 1 day at a time. I'm sure everything will be okay.
  • Yes, my scarlett has a hole in her heart as well, although they didnt notice it until after she was born and it was causing a murmur.. it means she has to see the cardiologist once a yr for an ultrsound and ekg of her heart for a checkup...in almost all cases they grow out of it and the hole closes by the time they are 12 and it doesnt hurt their growth or development at all...i wouldnt worry yourself too much it is actually very common.
  • My mom has one just has little murmured. Hopefully that's you're case. I'm sorry I'm sure this is stressful.
  • Owen has two small holes in the bottom ventrical of his heart. They didn't see it on US but noticed it after he was born. Its so scary hearing a Dr calling in a cardiologist for you 10 minute old baby. We visit the cardiologist every 6 months now, and last check up it was still there but now bothering him one bit. just don't stress mama, stressing at this point won't do any good :)
  • My oldest has an aterial septer defect. He just had to get ultrasounds of his heart to make sure it's closing. He's 4 now and due for his next. The Dr said if it doesn't close on it's own, is a very simple quick procedure to close it. He said it's very common.
  • My daughter had the same thing around the same time during the ultrasound. It repaired itself. If it doesn't I was told they can fix it. I had it when I was a baby and it closed itself.

  • My mom has a small hole in her heart and she has a murmur because of it. She's 60 years old and otherwise very healthy. Try not to stress.
