A few weeks ago, I noticed what feels like a duct in my right breast is enlarged...I haven't breastfed in over 7 months. It's also been achy. The other day, I noticed that a mole that appeared on the same breast while I was pregnant had become raised and the areola is changing color. I'm not pregnant, so it isn't that. The only other odd thing I've noticed over the last few months is I've been emotional...not depressed, but very sad or very happy things make me tear up. It's quite annoying really and at first I brushed it off as postpartum, but then I got to wondering if perhaps it's a hormone imbalance...too much estrogen. I've read that too much estrogen can cause cancer growth in the breasts, so this makes me a little more worried. I have an appointment on Monday morning in which I am sure I will have a breast exam & bloodwork, but I am considering pushing for a mammogram. There is a family history of breast cancer and I don't want to run any risks. They missed my aunts before she was diagnosed. Although she survived the breast cancer, she later was diagnosed with either ovarian or uterine (I can't remember). After beating that, she was diagnosed with cancer in the lymph nodes and it spread to the bone. Her body couldn't withstand the cancer and chemo and she passed away 2 years ago this month.
  • I just wondered if anyone else had experienced such changes to their breasts, hormones, or body.
  • I would definitely push for the mammogram, especially since there is family history of it. Good luck
  • I would think.they would do a ultrasound rather than s mammogram (my cousin had 1 they Saud for younger ppl ultrasound are more reliable ) good luck
  • Yes definitely ask for a mammogram or u.s.
  • Thanks ladies!
  • @cheekyerin I was actually thinking about that. Younger breasts at more dense, so I imaging getting a good mammogram photo would be difficult.
  • Hope its not cancer and everything turns out ok:-) :X
  • Good luck! I hope it's nothing! I'm story for the loss of your aunt. My Grandma is fighting her cancer right now. She had very little 3 years ago and didn't even need chemo but had a hysterectomy. But then the cancer came back this passed year. But now has had to do chemo. I'll stop there because it makes me cry just thinking about it.
  • @trixiesmom8 Thanks!

@LeviLuv8 Awe, I'm sorry to hear about your grandma. Cancer is such a horrible disease. :/
  • Hope everything turns out ok my thoughts r with u
  • They will usually give you a mamagram first then an ultra sound scan. Breast cancer is something close to my heart as my mum was only 34 when she lost her fight against it. I had a full mastectomy when I was 28 due to having a 1 in 2 chance of getting bc myself.
Please get checked out, I'm damn sure its Probs nothing but still go see your Dr xxx

@cheryl74 Thanks Hun! My grandma also died of cancer, but I am uncertain of which type a by the time they realized what was going on, it had spread to her brain. :(

So the doctor said she thinks everything is fine, but since she is not an ob or breast specialist & with the family history, she is putting in a referral for imaging and a follow up with the ob clinic. It would have been easier to just go to the clinic in the first place, but they didn't call me back. :/ Her opinion is that my body is still adjusting after pregnancy & breast feeding...I don't agree as I am 9 & 1/2 months pp, haven't breastfed in over 7 months, and this is not my first kid. I see no reason for sore breasts or enlarged ducts when I am not producing milk. Even when I stopped nursing, we were half breast, half formula. I dried up fast without any pain.

I didn't much care for her I suppose, she acted like I was wasting her time.
  • Im sorry the dr didnt really care. I hope you get some better answers soon.
  • I hope the Dr is right. Please tag me when you have answers, massive hugs xxx
  • Sorry she acted like she didn't care. Hope that your second opinion has just as good news as this one...but with a little more explanation.
  • @angel26 @cheryl74 @trixiesmom8 Thanks ladies! For some reason, my right breast is very sore tonight. She wasn't rough during the exam and I haven't had a mammogram yet. It's sore all the way under my arm. :/
  • Im sorry your in pain. Sore breast is horrible. I hope it just goes away for you.
  • Big hugs hun xxx
  • @angel26 I just wish I knew why. :/ I wouldn't mind it if there was some gift involved, but since I am not pregnant, this is just annoying. lol
  • Ya, understandable. Lol. That is anoying. I feel the same way with my shoulder. I mean, I know I got in a car accident which injured my shoulder. But most people feel better within a few days or feel better with physical therapy. Heck some of the people at the physical therapy are feeling better after a couple weeks, even the ones who had surgery. But here I am still in lots of pain a month and a half later. Sorry. I just wanted to tell you, I know how you feel. Being frustrated with unexplained pain.
