  • but of course what other options would u have lol
  • I didn't know you were given a choice. I know i wasn't given one when i had a blood transfusion, or maybe i don't remember =\
  • I had 4 units of blood after I had complications giving birth to my first. It pretty much saved my life. Yes yes yes!!!
  • It's your body, you always have a choice...if you can't answer then you need someone who can...like a significant other or parent @perly

I would....but I think if you are jahova witness they don't EVER...no matter what.
  • I don't see why not?! Soo yes IM o+ or o-. Which ever is the universal blood giver lol... I don't remember and I'm happy to help and if I was in the position I would be very thankful whoever gives me their blood I sure would love to be around for my family as long as possible :)...
  • I probably wouldn't unless life threatening, there are still some disease you can get from it

I have. I would have died otherwise. I am O+. I got so much that. I felt sick for a couple days. I had over 2 dozen units plus plasma.
  • @YNVTish not that i remember. I was actually up and walking that night. I did gain a little weight 3 months after, but i think it was the birth control i was on because as soon as i left it i slimmed down again.

I had the blood transfusion when i lost my first pregnancy. I was 17wks and my water broke followed by a hemorrhage. It all happened so fast that no one remembers exactly everything that happened in the E.R. My husband says that all he remembers is the doctor telling him that the blood i lost was the equivalent to a little over 2 cans of coke. I wasn't completely conscious because i don't remember when i had the blood transfusion, just remember the nurses reading each other my information, like my blood type and my DOB and so on.
  • I think my only side effect from the transfusion was a few days of being a little puffy... A little water retention.
  • My mother got a transfusion after bleeding from her leg... She said she was out of it half the time
  • Nope. They can do many other things then a blood transfusions. Thats just the easiest.
  • I wouldn't etheir when I haf the vbac my dr was scared of uterine rupture if then the patient usually needs a blood transfusion when i went into labor he said i didnt know you didnt accept blood and he called another hospital fo have the blood recycler ready juat in case the worst happened.
  • My daughter has had 3 during her cancer treatments. It just goes in an iv. it didn't seem to bother her at all. She had no side effects at all
  • I didn't have any side effects other than feeling better lol
  • I recently had them. was very awake during and haven't had any noticeable side effects.
  • I almost had to have one after my first birth but the dr said if I wasn't feeling the symptoms then I didn't necessarily need it so I didn't do it. My level was like 6. Something

  • I went into the hospital on the 22nd diagnosed with a bad case of pneumonia. During my 7 day stay there I received a transfusion because my blood was 7.4 and should have been 14. Little things like sitting up would send me into an asthma attack... A trip to the bathroom was overly exhausting.

Receirved my transfusion and lots of fluids. I swear on day 7 I weighed 30 lbs more. No joke!

I've been home from the hospital since the 29th and everyday I've woke up 10 lbs lighter then the next. MAJOR WATER WEIGHT GAIN.

    I hope I received a TrueBlood transfusion!
  • The water retention was my only side affect too. I was a puffer fish!! I hope ur feeling better. U were in the hospital over Xmas? :(
  • @mommyof3girls ... Yes it was my first Christmas without my babies. :-( I was in ICU so Christmas was like any other day.. my days just rolled together.

My kids had already went to granpa and grandmas and had a big Xmas.

We celebrated yesterday morning. I just laid on the couch weak and watched.. pretty pathetic.

Oh and my LO is officially winged cold turkey from the breast. I really miss BFing.
  • Tish I am not sure if you remember, but I had posted my story before. I had pneumonia and H1N1. I was at a 4.2 and 35 weeks pregnant. They did not understand how I was conscious or walking. I have always been very anemic, but I was sick. They gave me multiple transfusions and could not get me to have my levels stay up. Even now, 3 years later, I am under a 9; usually about 7.1 or so. I was in ICU for 3 weeks in a coma, then hours from death I was transferred to another hospital and stayed there for over 2 months, 4.5 weeks still in a coma there. I know some people refuse transfusioms for religious purposes, but no amount of a blood recycler was going to save my life. I am O+ amd I ran my hospital out of their supply. I ended up with stomach bleeding due to a medication and I was off my acid reflux medication and I developed ulcers. One started bleeding and I had to get 8 units of blood and plasma to stop it. I was so sick from that large amount in only 6 hours and like I said, my body will not hold levels up. Basically my body was rejecting the blood. They cannot give me iron supplements and i cannot eat iron rich greens as they produce vitamin K, which is a blood clotting nutrient, because I have Lupus amd protein S deficiency, so my body throws off blood clots now. I am on Warfarin (blood thinners) for life and have a vena cava filter to block clots from going to my heart and lungs thatbis permanently surgically implanted.
  • First @ynvtish sweetie I'm so sorry! You know I'm never on here anymore but I'm just seeing this. I hope you're feeling better. I had to get a transfusion when I was hemorrhaging in my first trimester with Victoria. I was unconscious so my husband gave permission. I felt fine after and I guess he did what he thought was best with the medical advice he was given.
  • OMG... @luvmy. What a freaking story. DAAAMN.

My pulmonary specialis that was double teaming me with my Dr wants me to see another specialist to rule out Lupus.
  • Your regular doctor can run the tests.
