UGH!

Ok so i have posted about this before..

Got Makenzie in to see an orthopedic doctor today because she stands funny. She doesn't put weight on her feet she stands on her toes and on the backs of her toes. When she pulls up to stand she drags her foot and she won't walk with help. She is 13 months and she doesn't even walk much while holding onto stuff. She is just now starting to stand unsupported but its only for a few seconds.
SO anyway I took her today and the doctor said "its normal she is only 13 months some kids don't walk until later." I am not worried that she isn't WALKING I am worried about the other things NOT LETTING HER WALK... He just wasn't listening to me. He said "your a young 1st time mom its understand able to not know its normal" Umm I have worked at a day care for 5 years in the infant room i have seen so many kids learn to walk and what Makenzie does just seems so weird to me since I haven't seen it before..
Time for a 2nd opinion...

  • It really does suck when a doctor doesn't listen to your concerns. You should definitely seek a second opinion. This doctor may be right about this being normal, but that is no way of putting a mother's concerns at ease.
  • Find another doctor that will listen to you. I can't even imagine how frustrating that would be.
  • Did/Does your 13-12 month old walk with help? Makenzie wont :-(
  • Get a second opinion and also record her next time on your phone and have them look at it
  • I did it in front of the freaking doctor for him to see and he still said nothing. Im very disapointed because I went to Childrens Memorial (where she gets her cancer treatments) in chicago because its a great hospital. I thought for sure she would get looked at much more then she did. He layed her down and moved her legs and that was it I seriously was in there for 2 mins
  • I'm sorry he was a jerk. I'd be getting a second opinion. My daughter will be 14m on the 8th, she just started walking on her own. I hope you get answers soon hun!
  • My daughter didn't walk till almost 15months wouldn't even walk assisted till about 13-14 months.
  • Thanks @trixiesmom8 and @MorgDeeBee makes me feel better.
  • My daughter who is almost 9 didn't walk til 17 months. My 3 yr old was 16 months. With the 3 yr old his daycare kept saying something was wrong so I set up an orthopaedic appt...and what tdo you know before I could take him (they were booked for 3 weeks) he started walking. My dad didn't walk til he was two my grandmother told us. Now my 9 month old is already taking steps and has been using the walls to walk around the house since he was 7 and a half months so you can see all kids are diff
  • Don't mean to piss you off, but that is totally normal (standing on toes and backs of toes, etc) If it continues to worry you, request an xray to ensure her bone structure is normal.
  • Have them look at the tendens in the back of her foot my husband had a hard time putting his foot flat until he was like 5 out 6 and they found out that it was to short so he was always on his toes
