Toddler with green eye discharge- Update

I noticed today that my 16mo old keeps getting green discharge from one eye. What could this be? He has had a cold/cough for a little over a week now but seems to be getting better except for the congestion, could it be tied to that? What should I do?

Oh and it doesn't seem to bother him at all.

Jack had that bad when he had an ear infection. That was his only symptom

@sands3 oh don't tell me that he did have a fever along with his cold about a week ago so I am hoping it was just a cold virus. Don't know if I should take him to his doc.

it always started out with what seemed to be your basic cold then the eye discharge

Snot can come out tear ducts if he's really congested. This girl at work was severely congested and sneezed, a huge goo ball of snot came out of her eye.

@Steph_due_101611 @sands3 @soon2be3 so it seems to have gotten worse at night, it got completely shut with the crust and now in the morning seems red and a bit swollen. I stayed home from work but the doctor can't see him until later this afternoon. Ugh I really hope its not pink eye either! He is super congested now though and has thick boogers.

its not pink eye it's an eye infection now

they will give ointment for the eye, meds for the upper respiratory infection and recommend tylenol or motrin for everything else.

@starlilly @juliansmommy @sands3 @soon2b3 @captivated they said it looks like a viral infection, they don't think its pink eye although they prescribed pink eye drops because it will help it resolve sooner? I don't get it...but now its spreading to the other eye ...they told me not to take him back to day care till at least Thursday.

My now 8 year old used to get eye infections like that all the time. Try to hold a wash cloth with really warm water on it to loosen it up in the morning. (easier said than done with a16 month old!) & keep it as clean ad possible throughout the day. It should clear up in a few days. Hope he gets all better soon!
