son's major diaper rash - help

my son got his flu shot the on Tuesday and for the past couple of days he's had some loose poops. it happens. he now has the worst rash he has ever had and it is weird. his penis and bottom are super chappy, and for chappy rashes I swear by bag balm. however, it's also so super bumpy, and makes me wonder if it's some sort of yeast infection rash in which case the bag balm wouldn't do any good, just feed the yeast. so now I don't know what to do for him. I stopped using wipes and am just using wet paper towels so it won't sting and hurt. but I don't know if I should stick with the bag balm for the chappiness or use straight powder or lotrimin if it's a yeast infection, or if I should use desitin or something. disclaimer,I ddon't really like desitin, I don't think it works as well as other products.
I just want to make him as comfortable as possible so I gave him some tyleonol and I let his bottom dry out and have some air before putting his diaper back on, but he keeps saying ow whenever he walks cause his penis is so chapped. :-( any ideas on what would work best?

I would call the Dr office to see what they say. My son has never had diaper rash where it hurts to walk. I hope it gets better soon

I like a&d diaper rash or aquaphor better the desitin. My 4 month old just had a yeast rash and I didn't know that's what it was till after a few days of diaper creams not working. She would scream during diaper changes because the wipes hurt her. But after I put the yeast cream on the rash was gone in just a couple days. I would try a yeast cream and see if it helps at all.

I use the desitin in the purple can. Has always worked really well. They also have it powder form that goes on the bath that stuff is amazing. If you think it's an yeast infection ask the doc for sure. Hope it goes away soon!
