whens the earliest you can tell the gender?

This is my first child (im on my 14th week)and I wanted to know the earliest you can tell the babies gender? I heard it's 18-22 weeks but has anyone found out sooner then that at a ultra sound? I'm hoping for a girl and so is his family(no girl grandchildren yet)but will be just as happy with a little boy :X

I have heard as early as 16 weeks. I found out at 18 weeks. Im glad I found out when I did! It made my excitement grow more and more!! I am having a girl and she'll be my in-laws first granddaughter too!! Its so exciting! Good luck!!

the ultra sound tech told me a boy at 14 weeks that she was certain of it. But I will be going back for my 20 weeks us the 31st
