10 weeks pregnant starting new job monday...HELP! ADVICE NEEDED

edited March 2011 in Pregnant
So I just got a new job closer to home because I will be a single mom so I completely intend on working thru my pregnancy and after but my question is when should I let them know I'm pregnant????? I know they can't fire me for being pregnant but I also don't want to risk being let go before my probation period is over because they don't think I'm reliable... feed back PLEASE!

  • Do u have to work a probation period? If so i would strongly suggest working through this if only a few weeks! Then mjwam chat to your New hr department. Good luck!
  • Should read maybe not mjwam! Lol
  • @marie7s why not wait until you are 13 weeks. You'd be in your 2nd trimester then and they'd be more understanding as to why the wait.

If your job requires heavy lifting or anything strenuous, go on and inform them so they can try and accommodate you. If the firm has 15 employees or more they still can't terminate you. Whether you are a new hiree or not.
  • Yah my probation is 90days so I know I'll be showing a lot by the end of it... I'm just really nervous.. it kind of sucks for them because I'll be working for 6months then off of almost 2:/
  • @dollfacemommi really??? 15 or more employees? I've never heard that .why is that???
That would make me feel sooooo much better
  • I would not tell them until I was showing. Work through it, you can do it. I'm 17weeks, I havent worked since december. I just started back today, and it kicked my behind with a steal toe boot. I only worked 4 hours. I really had to hang in there today, because the first thirty mins were the hardest, after that it was a breeze, besides the crash when your done. Just wait it out. They still don't know I'm expecting. During your probation they can really be assholes and try to fire you for something stupid like being30secs late. So wait wait wait. Wait wait, I can't say it enough!
  • @marie7s usually businesses that have less than 15 are privately owned non-franchise type businesses. You know stores, restaurants, etc. that are only locally known. We call them "mom and pop". lol

They aren't held to the same labor standards and practices as larger firms. Mainly because these type businesses really don't get any kind of federal funding whereas, larger businesses and firms do.
  • @cadymj27 I have been off for a couple of weeks and I get tired just doing nothing lol so I know its going to be super tough to work 8plus hrs a day..but I have to do it so my baby can have what he or she needs:) I am going to wait as long as I can.
Good luck with you pregnancy and working again!
  • @dollfacemommi thanks I didn't know all that! I know this company has a very strict hr department and they seem very by the book so hopefully that works in my favor:)
  • I work 8-12 hours a day 6 nights a week at first it sucked so bad omg! My husband is a supervisor at my job and i always would tell him im quiting lol but now im in my 14w and its not so bad so just hang in there :) Being a working prego chick does have its perks :)
