So lately I've been getting crazy painful charlie horse/cramps in my calf. Anyone have any advice on why im getting them and/or how to prevent them?

  • Most of the time cramping can be caused by dehydration....are u drinking enough water?
  • I am usually on my feet during the day so at night when i relax i get them and they are really painful. It could be dehydration or it coud be from the weight being put on your leg muscles.
  • am almost due n I getting some painfull ones too :( lol hurts like crazy!!
  • WATER!!!!!! Lord knows Ive learned my lesson from my first pregnancy.
  • It couldn't be water, I drink 5-6 liters a day. It might be from being on my feet all day? Idk but they really suck. Sometimes I even get woke up in the middle of the night because of the pain. Could it maybe be because im not getting enough calcium??
  • I am only allowed water during this pregnancy so i drink way more than they tell you to. I still get them and they wake me up too.
  • Well I hav the same prob n all I drink is water

  • I thought tht mite b it but I eat bananas alot
  • I thought it was from lack of potassium. Whenever I would get them I'd immediately stand up and stretch my leg and it would instantly ease up.

  • I got them way bad with my 1st and even some with my 2nd. I hope #3 doesn't bring them. Drink lots of water and try eatting some bananas. They helped with the frequency of my 2nd.
  • I drank 64 to 96 oz of water everyday and still had these at leased 3 times a week. Ugh. I'm sorry, I just suffered.
  • idk about ways to prevent them but once u got a charlie horse u need to put ur weight on the leg that has the cramp. it makes it hurt at first but then thats what makes it go away
  • I thought charlie horses were a lack of potassium? Well either way, walking on it helps. It hurts like hell, but it goes away faster
  • Thanks everyone for the feedback :) im definitely gonna mention them to my dr and have her check to see if im deficient on any vitamins. Hopefully there's a solution, if not I'll suffer for the next 3 months.
  • I asked my doc and she told me to eat more potassium.
  • So is it safe to take a potassium supplement? The whole idea of bananas just sounds awful to me lol I've never been a fan.
  • There's a lot of foods that are high in potassium. She didn't tell me to take a supplement just to eat more potassium.
  • I'll have to look into it. My diet has been ridiculous lately so I really wouldn't be surprised if im getting these nasty cramps because I need vitamins, be it potassium, calcium, or whatever. Definitely need to get back to eating a well balanced, healthy diet thats for sure.
  • Yeah I know its hard to always eat good. But those leg cramps hurt especially when u get woken up by them. So I'm definately trying.
  • When ufeel one coming, point ur toes up instead of straight or straight down, works for me
  • I was getting them in the mornings when I steached before getting out of bed. They were so bad I got them one right after the other for a good five mins on each leg, I would cry! Anyways I added potassium pills along with my vitamins and lots of water and I havent had them since. Potassium helps distrbute water evenly in the body
  • I thought it was just another affect of pregnancy I wanted to just chop off my darn legs smh I vowed to never stretch again... I had one in each leg at the same that woke me out my sleep wth... I swear I hate taking pills but if there's a cure give it to me
