Whats the difference between the prenatal vitamins?

edited February 2011 in Pregnant
I went to my doctor and she told me I had to pick from the four she gave me. I told her I was already taking over the counter prenantal vitamibs and folic acid and she said that meant nothing to her. I would need to pick one that she recomm. Then they all have like 20% discount or have a 100 off coupon. Im just a little concerned about the expense of these pills throughout my pregnancy. Any advice???

  • I take the vitafusion prenatal gummies with dha. It's $12 for 90 gummies. You take two a day. My doc said its fine. Your doc may be getting a cut from the manufacturer rep for "recommending" their products so that's probably why she's pushing for those.
  • I take the natures made prenatals with dha I get them at walgreens and my doctor recomended them to me. Like kgentry87 said your dr. probably gets some sort of kick back for pushing those specific kinds
  • Im taking the spring valley prenatals that you get at walmart dr. said they are just as good as what she could write a prescription for
  • Yeah I was taking naturemade with dha too. My husband said the same thing and when I went in to see her she said that she does what is standard but goes above too. She stresses that she is a high risk preg doc and that she is going to ask for certain lab works etc.. That arent covered. Right after she said this ive been thinling about getting amother doc. This is my first preg and like my husband tells me...ur not high risk. I was like...ok. I should prob get a new doc huh? Im only 5 weeks along.
  • Did she say why you would be high risk are u older or ur families have health risk markers?
  • I have taken naturemade and one a day women prenatal s . And love them. But I was wondering what the difference between those and the ones doctors prescribe ? I keep seeing the ads for them in the waiting room magazines. And does insurance cover them? I'm think not but thought I ask.
  • No im 28 and not at high risk. I went to her because she was a refferal. It wasnt until I spoke to her when she said she was a high risk preg doctor. Oh and im going to go out on a limb and say I dont think those vitamins arent covered by insurance. The neevo was 20% off without insurance and the other onces are citranatal I think. Som
  • The others were citranatal and all the same brand but diferent vitamins. the plus was they all came with stool softners.
  • I would probably change doctors if she keeps making you get tests that aren't covered by insurance and you will stress about money and thats not good for you or the little one
  • I take one a day womens prenatal that comes with a 2nd bottle with dha pills .. I looove them
  • Thanks for the help guys. Im switching doctors and sticking with naturesmade. :)
  • I take the vitafusion gummys :) they're yummy and easy to take :)
