I was fired ten days before im due:-(

edited April 2011 in Third Trimester
I'm not having a good day. I was in house keeping at a hospital and I missed some dust in a checkout room. Thing is I'm the fourth pregnant woman to get fired from that department in less than a year. And I got fired for dust! A coworker threatened to burn down a patients house because the patients son ratted her sons out for burglary so her sons went to jail. Our boss's boss told our boss to fire her but our boss stuck by her and told the boss's boss she wasn't going to fire her. But I miss some dust (on the windowsill) and I get fired because our boss says her boss would want that. I feel discriminated against. :-( I'm due in ten days.

  • sounds like discrimimation on preggos....did u get a warning?
  • I had been written up for missing days because of pregnancy, with doctors notes, but my boss said that doctor notes don't count. This is the first time I have ever had an issue with actual performance.
  • I'd call your head of human resource!!
    Seems shady!!
  • mmmhm i wud investigate and probably get a lawyer.....it seems like he didnt want to pay for maternity leave so he was better off firing u
  • I had been having irregular contractions while cleaning the room as well.its hard to concentrate on ridding a room of dust when you feel that kind of pain. Then she told me I should just go on welfare.
  • That's how hospital work. Its sad. Ours just fired the absolute best CNA in the world cause she was sick and missed the max amount of days(which are not many) I think they did it cause she had 14 yrs with the company and her pay was getting up there. I see nurses kill people accidentally cause they don't check on them like the should. They never get fired.
  • are they even allowed to write you up if you provide doctors notes?
  • I wasn't even going to get maternity leave. I was "prn-as needed " but I had a set 40+ hour schedule. I wasn't going to get paid for the time off anyway I was going to have to use fmla.
  • Id file for unemployment. Sounds.like discrimination :( good luck!
  • Is file a discrimination complaint, this sounds pretty illegal when you have doctors note and no legitimate write up... Sounds like they don't want to cover maternity...
  • I already filed. My dad is helping me get my ducks in a row to sue for discrimination. He is going through the same thing only he worked for the government and had a heart attack but my dad didmt want to resign so they deleted his position and layed him off but reinstated the position a week after he was layed off. My dad told me to go to my hr and file my fmla papers as if I wasn't fired and then tell them that I want to appeal the termination decision. I dk if they will let me fill out fmla papers after I'm fired... I couldn't fill them out before because I hasnr been employed there for a year. I just came up o
  • n my one year
  • Are u union? If so file a greviance if not def get a lawyer that's soo messed up
  • I'm not union, but my dad has a lawyer.
  • I'd def sue! It happened to my sister. She worked in admissions for 3 yrs. They fired her and a week later she miscarried from the stress. She had a huge case against them. Good luck.

Sounds like discrimination. With my daughter I worked at an MMRD facility. At 17 weeks pregnant one of the guys hit me in the stomach and I went into preterm labor. We had a policy at work that if you got 10 points they could fire you. When I called to tell them I was bringing in my dr note and when I could return they told me I had been let go. I didn't think it was right, but being pregnant and dealing with preterm labor I didn't do anything about it!
  • Yea at my job you get wrote up even if you have a doctors note also! Its crazy!
  • @mimibrowneyez36 but it was a work related injury, and they don't give points for those, I think they just decided that I was going to be taking to much time off for pregnancy and baby. I also realized that anybody that was pregnant never came back to work either!
  • I have been told I have two weeks to hit target or ill be let go. Im on probation as only started in feb but had to tell them in march I was pregnant. Their attitude totally changed. Iv said for weeks they wont keep me on and it looks like I was right. I asked what more could I do that im not already and they could not tell me. I need a miracle.
  • I would talk to those other pregnant women and see if all of you can get some sort of discrimination law suit going. You might have a better chance if there is a pattern!
On the same note WTF is up with bosses! Ugh! I worked as a bartender when I found out I was pregnant. I have been working for my boss for 8 years at various restaurants. When I told him I worked for 1 month in the bar just under full time then he moved me into the restaurant part and cut my shifts to 3 days a week lol! And just yesterday asked when I was gonna stop working. When I told him July 1 (I'm due the 28) he laughed! Its so frusterating! Why do people think because we are pregnant we are broken! I told him several times I will tell him if it becomes to much but he never gave me a chance! Oh well it will all work out for all of us!
Good luck ladies!!! And @cassiz22 I hope you get something figured out it is wrong what they did and hopefully there is something you can do!
  • @ammasmama you were assaulted. You probably could have gone on workmen comp. You being out was in direct relation to the assault. As am male boss and future boss (on second job) I could never be so effer up to fire a preggo. Nor would I tolerate anyone that did give them a hard time. When the tables are turned its a diff story and they want the wks to stop....deal is preg is a part of life, they need to respect it
  • @bigdaddy I should have got workers comp, I almost lost my baby cause of it. I can't consider it assault though, the guy who hit me has down syndrom. I haven't worked since...that baby is now 2, has a 1 yr old sister and another sister due within the next 4 weeks!
  • Still considered a work related situation.still assaulted. Eventough he isn't mentally competent. You have a right to not ne hit.. you. Need am employment law, lawyer
  • @bigdaddy thanks, but its probably to late to do anything now, its been 3 years.
