Also when u get referred offpost make sure the ob ur being assigned to is taking new patients. I had a horrible experience with an Army hospital with a miscarriage my med file says the spent 8 mins face to face w me, that included exam and "explaining" everything. So when I got pregnant this time I got referred offpost only to find out that ob doesnt see patients until 12 weeks. But since I was referred and went in for bloodwork tricare wouldnt approve a diff dr. And we were about to pcs so I was 18+ weeks before I even saw an OB for the first time.
@sands3, hmm. & yes, I'm under the impression tricare prime chooses for us even though the comment above this says it doesn't. I called around today, & basically the hassle free way to switch is to switch to standard, then I can go anywhere I want as long as they accept tricare. My whole pregnancy will be covered, I'll just have to pay somewhere between $30-$40 after delivery they said.
@MissPrego, Jacksonville, NC. I couldn't get a dr on tricare prime until I was assigned one, the only way I can go wherver I like is to be on standard according to everyone I've spoken with.
@Almost4, were you referred to those drs, or did you choose them on your own? & I am at a Naval dr currently, not Army.
@cetheridge, I have called to make sure the clinic I am looking into is accepting new patients. & asked about cost & insurance acceptance. I am 17weeks now.
@Almost4, okay so tricare did assign your drs mostly you just changed the pediatrician. My kids are assigned a pediatrician off base but my ob is on base, I know it's all based on availability. We honestly got assigned the WORST clinics ever though. The clinic my boys go to for pediatrics is an office, there's 3 patient rooms one of which is shared as a drs office! It's small, it's not very clean in my opinion, & they don't even give vaccinations! When I was assigned to naval for ob I was happy because it seems like a very good environment, but the drs don't show any concern for mee no matter what I say!
@Almost4, well I was calling around earlier today & I was told if I switch to standard I can see any dr I want as long as they accept tricare, so I think I'm gonna do that rather than have to wait for another referral to go through.
@Almost4, thank you! & no, I didn't know how to navigate the site on my phone either so I had just googled clinics around here that accept tricare. I found one ob that a lot of people reccomend, now I'm looking into the hospital that ob is affiliated with before I make my decision.
@momma_tiffay- I have tricare prime and I go to a civilian they didtn give me any trouble about it. And up to right now we havent had to pay anything out of pocket.
@Almost4, the clinic I am looking into is Womans Healthcare Associates? Associated with Onslow Memorial Hospital, in Jacksonville NC lol idk where you are stationed?
@malenastocks, I gave my hospital 2 chances already... def don't want to settle until I'm ready to deliver lol.
@kehau1, as long as you like your ob that's good. My ob just ceases to make any sense whatsoever in the way they are treating me & my high risk pregnancy...
@MissPrego, hmm where are you located? Maybe that makes a difference? I was definitely referred to the Naval ob here, & when I called tricare they told me the only way to switch is to go talk to patient relations or something so that I can be discharged from military care then I still need to get a referral to see another clinic. So I am highly debating switching to standard & going to whatever clinic I want, without having to go through all of that nonsense!
@momma_tiffay Im in california but when I signed up for tricare I was in Texas. And when I switched over here they didnt say anything about switching to standard....
@Almost4, yeah i heard sometimes it can be a long wait... but honestly, i need a new dr that actually cares for me... if i have to wait a little longer, i think i can handle that, as long as they take good care of me while i'm being seen! & oh! do you know anyone who has been up there? i really want to know about the hospital as well as the clinic, seeing as i will be there at somepoint as well lol.

@MissPrego, hmm... idk why it's diff for us, I'm really confused lol. But as long as I have some way to switch my dr that's all that matters ot me!
