She said giving formula to a baby is like taking them into smoke filled room or giving them cancer! Wtf I disagree I was a formula fed baby! Also what about the poor women that can't breast feed due to medical reasons? That's so messed up

  • Wow thats ignorant! Who is she to make a statement like that?! Clearly that's her opinion and if she cant understand why pple would formula feed and keep her opinion to herself than perhaps she shouldn't be working there! I would complain about her for sure!
  • She's dumb. Like really dumb. You should make up some ridiculous statement about becoming a wic counselor n see how she reacts
  • Omg she needs to lose her job or get retrained for sure
  • I would report her! That is just wrong.
  • No way, my son was formula fed and he's smart and sweet and has great manners..
  • wtf... that doesn't make any sense, my mom formula-fed her 3 kids because she had breast reduction surgery a long time ago and we're all perfectly fine!!!
  • I can't stand fanatics who think it's breastfeed or die. There was a past member on here that said "formula feeding is disgusting and cruel." I respect any mother who is providing nutrition for their child be it, breast or formula.
  • I would report also, I cannot breast feed on my left side due to a house fire I was in when I was 4. I have a nipple, but it doesn't stick out -----we tried everything with my oldest son when he was a lil baby and there is no way one boob can feed a child. That is hurtful that she would say that to you. Formula today is much better today because they have added more vitamins (I'm sure) and isn't WIC suppose to supply you with vouchers to get formula???!!!! thats calling the kettle black or w/e that saying is lol
  • My aunt has no choice but to formula feed when she has her baby. When she was 5 she was burned from head to knees when her dress caught fire. She has no breasts at all.
  • i agree with the woman that it is not as good as breastfeeding, but her statement seems very insensitive to women who cannot bf for medical reasons, or who have to work full-time and cannot pump for some reason. i personally think everyone should at least try though, as the amount of personal effort required should not be the deciding factor. but that does not mean it is the same as giving your kid cancer to formula feed! again, it sounds offensive to me, as some women cannot. my sister had triplets and could not produce enough milk, i do not see it as cancer-equal!
  • Ugh sometimes wic really upsets me at how crazy they get about breastfeeding !! Most mothers absolutely do want to breastfeed but for some reason or another cant. Im unable to breastfeed due to a medical condition and I tried and tried with my first but was forced to stop when she wasnt getting the nutrition she needed. I explained this to the breastfeeding consultant at wic and she said that I MUST have not been doing it right and theres "no such thing" as not being able to breastfeed.
  • wth ?! thats one of the dumbest things ive heard lol. it's like those wic people want something to be wrong with you/what you do... i applied for wic last week and they put me as "high risk" because i "wasn't gaining enough weight" for them, which made me freak out and i told my doc at my appt the next day and he told me "don't listen to them, if i was worried about you i would let you know. they look for people who are malnourished and not eating right but if you are eating good and baby is developing fine then im fine with it." psh a-holes lol [-(
  • Yes. Report her.

  • wic counselors are such assholes about not breastfeeding that's what I hate about wic..I told mine I had zero plans of breastfeeding and she gave me like 10 pamphlets two videos and two magazines about breastfeeding and looked at me like I was trash.. I was like wtf??
  • Yea apparently if u supplement its like saying you will only take your baby into a smoke filled room if the other is on fire. Also she said she said formula is like giving your baby radiation! I pump and formula and I was thinking of just exclusive pumping but she said I can only get a pump for two weeks at a time so if someone needs one I have to give it back, so I guess then she would probably expect me to starve my child cause God forbid I give her formula!
  • I have had similar expirences at wic and my doctor asked me why I won't go back. Anyways I think that's their mission statement or something the lady made me feel all bad too. She made comments on how bf for over two years was what you should do. and after 10 months of bf I was done and she made me feel like shit. But sorry I think that deserves a job well done. Like the other ladies said formula is fine or why would they give it to you? Stupid wic bf extremist
  • Yeah wic counselors make me mad...they are jerks! They make u feel like shit because they're helping you.
  • WIC seems to be pointless anyway. They don't really help, the checks are confusing and thr food they offer barely makes sense. Only a few fruits and vegetables, but you can get canned tuna? But that is really insensitive and I am a huge bfing activist,.asd alot of you know. Wow.
  • Thats was rude of her..yea I would report her too.
I had wic when i was prego w/my son and didn't like it..once when I went to the store like down a little hill and 2 blocks away..so I walk..told them I can only tak 1 gallon of milk..she keep saying I had to take 2 and 1/2 gallons cus the voucher. But I keep telling her its to heavy once im walking carry that and bunch of other stuff..I was annoyed ..cus like don't they know your not suppose to carry heavy stuff especially walking in the heat@ 6 months ..
that lady was rude..most wic people are.
  • My WIC office is nice and the women who work there are kind and happy to see me. They are super pro breast feeding, but I plan on breast feeding anyway since I don't have booby issues and its free :) They really shouldn't be so judgmental toward women who can't exclusively breast feed for 2 years (I plan on weaning as soon as he can eat solid food regularly).
  • @victoriab I've had the same experience at the WIC office. I actually wouldn't mind working there. Now the food stamp office and my worker with them.....a whole different story.
  • Haha she needs her damn head checked! They wouldn't sell formula if that was the case SMDH
  • @blissmarie23
Ugh, DSHS is terrible. I hate being treated like a criminal or like I'm stupid for needing temporary assistance.
  • @victoriab so agree!! I went for my first appt and told her that im due to have my baby any day. So she kept saying well if you have the baby by june 20th then we can add him to your family size. I kept telling her I could have the baby right now. They wont let u be pregnant forever...smdh
  • So my baby is a month old on the 26th and my milk isn't doing good and I've tried nursing and the face she makes when I try is hilarious but I think I may just do full formula. I don't know what to do. It still bothers me what she said
  • That is horrible.... Some people are crazy!!! Who is she to judge.. Dont let her get to you she is an idiot.
  • My last wic appointment this obese woman told me that I was too fat for my due date. I looked at her and said excuse me all I eat is salads and fruit and she said that I needed to cut back on my food intake. I was pissed, so I told her fine ill go back to smoking and drink slim fast instead, and while were on the topic of overweightness maybe you should try a damn diet sometimes, looks like you ate five babies. She handed me my checks and said see you in. Three month. I walked out pleased I told her off, but upset because then I felt fat :( the next day the doctor told me my due date changed and I was perfectly on target with my weight.. f wic!
