No way id ever think u were stupid ;) pitocin is a synthetic version of a natural hormone oxytocin. It's what gives u contractions. In hospital if they think u r taking too long to dilate (some women take hours and days but its faster when u feel safe and relaxed) they will give u pit thru an IV. It causes very strong contractions that put stress on baby and hurt u a lot. So u r more likely to need epi. In reverse, if u have an epi too early, it slows ur contractions so they give u pit to speed up. This leads to more c-section and vacuum deliveries cause its hard on baby. Plus, u r stuck in bed on IV, heartrate monitor, not allowed to eat or drink just in case u need surgery. I am studying to be a midwife so if u have any ?s just ask!
