what do you think, similar names of cousins

edited February 2011 in Baby names
My husband and I always wanted the name Sophia for a little girl, like for 2 yrs we talked about it. Well, a year ago my brother who lives 3 hrs away and whom we see once or twice a year named his new baby sophie . Gahhhh!!! He stole my name!! Sort of lol. I'm still stuck on Sophia Nicole as a name, but I know my hubby is feeling like its a no-go now.
What's everyones opinions?!

  • Personally I would pick a differerent name because I wouldn't want to have the same name as someone else. Did your brother know that you wanted that name because of he did that's pretty effed up.
  • @kayleigh27 No, he didn't know. I'm really bummed bc I loved that name. Maybe I can convince my hubby on Brianna Nicole. That's just as pretty. :X
  • Or...if we have a boy we'll be all set bc we have that picked out already too!!
  • That's like my situation.I've always wanted to Name my son Samuel after my dad who passed away. But when my cousin had her baby she named her son after my father. Now I'm having my first and its a boy an I don't want to have 2 Samuel's in the family... even though we have like 5franks and 3 Dominics loll. So I'm naming him Salvatore after my grandpa, who also passed, and we can use Sam as a nickname. It just makes me mad cause I can't give him the name I wanted because she had to take it... :-W
  • Yeah! That's frustrating! @leannamari13 she should have asked you since you didn't have any boys at that time. I would have asked my cousin for permission! Just sayin lol. But I like Salvatore. Its really handsome! <3
  • Wow now she really should have asked you @leannamari3 since it was your father!
  • Omg lol now Shes going to go on a hormonal rage on her cousin just because we're mad for her 'stealing' the name @leannamari13 dont kill her! Lol ;) :*
  • I can't type today! Nothing is coming out right! Gawd! Prego brain kicking in
  • My son is caled jack and his cousin is jake its confusing wen theyre together but fine otherwise x
  • I think it could be worse if they were siblings. Like my cousins who are sisters are named krista and clarissa. Talk about getting them confused ;)
  • Also you could use the name you like as a middle name. that is what we did. We have very unique first names and our father's names as middle names for our two boys.
  • Yeah my name is Kayleigh and my.younger cousin is Hailey so they always get our names mixed up. It's been 11 yrs since she was born so now we're just used to it and just answer by any name they call us
  • We're using his SIL's name for a middle name...if we have a girl. There's other names we can agree on too so it wont be too bad

I would choose a different name if I were you.
  • My names ashley and my cousins name is ashlyn. So its not too bad especially since cousin and they aren't going to be in same household just make middle name way different
  • My step sisters each had boys 2 months apart.... one is Anthony and the other is Antonio.... confusing lol luckily my sister knows my names I picked and wouldn't dare touch them lol I love her for it
  • My cousins all took my baby girl names. First Emily then Sophia. My mom says why not name the baby Emma or Emmie? But I dunno if that'd still be way too close. So now I'm having the same problem. Emily is 3 so they'd be together a lot. Any thoughts?
  • @itsfinallyhappening
Wow. Weird. My brothers 2 daughters are sophi and Emmie
I loved Sophia but now we are reconsidering for girls names.
  • My nephew is finn and my husband has wanted to name one of our sons finnegan since we started having kids. I said no, even tho my bro lives in tennessee and I see them once every 5 years or so. Now I kind of regret it, tho, because I love finnegan.
  • It's your baby. You have EVERY right to name your child whatever you would like.
